Mother-in-law gave me her father's US Army model 1917 S&W revolver. Would one of youse guys tell me when it was made and approx. value. It's chambered for .45ACP, has the Army Ordnance flaming ball proof mark and lanyard ring. Serial # 823XX. In excellent condition.
I 'preciate it.

I would say your gun was made in 1918.A rough estimate on price $450.

The listed s/n would make the production date of the gun about June 1918. Depending upon the markings on the gun and the condition, the gun would be worth between $400 to $900. I have even seen a couple go for over a thousand. If you list the markings on it and the condition or email me with them at 38spl@kconline.com , I could give a more accurate estimate of value. Also include any verified history of it you know as if there is provable history on it, it can influence the price. I saw one that had the original paperwork and a factory letter showing the officer it was delivered to that was 95+% go for about $1100.

Thanks for the info. I didn't want the appraisal for the purpose of selling. Just curious.
    The markings on it are:
The bomb burst just at the rear of the top strap on the left side.
The left side of the barrel is marked:
    S.& W. D.A. 45.
The top of the barrel is marked: Smith & Wesson Springfield, Mass. U.S.A. Patented Dec 17,1901. Feb. 8, 1906. Sep. 14, 1909.I'm guessing at the 6 in 1906 and the 9 in 1909. Either could be 6's 8's or 9's. Not very clear.
There is an A on the left side at the rear of the trigger guard.
The bottom of the grip is marked with the serial number and
    U.S. ARMY MODEL 1917.
After closer scrutiny, I'd say the condition isGOOD+.
I'm not aware of any documentation that goes with it.

Competentone.......No....she's DEFINITELY one of a kind.
