Proposed New Calif. Ban

Ok, we all enjoy beating up on us poor Californians and their laws. This morning in the paper I read that 4 more Pit Bull attacks happened last week. Now normally we would just ban the Pit Bulls but I think the new law should read that all Pit Bull owners should be banned or at least have a Calif. approve Pit Bull safe to protect the intruders from any further Pit Bull attacks...Stir Stir Stir...

First we must register "assault" dogs, ban, then confiscate them. Cheese and Rice, when does it end?

How about muzzle locks. Actually in most cases the dogs aren't the real problem the owners are. The dangerous dogs seemed to be owned by the people who don't have two brain cells to rub together. Maybe ownership of potentially dangerous dogs should require an IQ test.

Ok we have liceneseing for pit bulls. Then that isn't enough so we register our pit bulls. Next we ban pit bulls thay have a bite capacity of more than 3". Then when you buy a bit bull you have to go through a background check to make sure you haven't had a biting pit bull in the past. Then when you pick up your pit bull you must have a muzzle lock before you can take your new pit bull out of the store. And you must prove that you have a pit bull safe, at home that has been approved by the state attorney general, before you leave the pet store. Then you are taxed on the Kibbles - and - Bits that you buy at the pet store so a fund can be set up to pay for medical care should someone be bitten by a pit bull.

I bought a Rottweiler to eat any Pit Bull that messes with my family members.

The only problem I have now is my Rottie thinks she's a lap dog.

I believe that was covered in the 3" bite limitation law.

Horrifying thought: While we are laughing about the preposterousness of this line of thinking, somebody in California is heart-attack seriously trying to figure out how to write legislation about Pit Bulls.

And maybe other dogs supposedly "bred for fighting in ancient times."

Do you have any idea how many current breeds of dogs were originally bred for fighting in ancient times?

Then there are the "security" breeds, which may not have been bred for fighting but have a reputation for "protectiveness."

They could ban everything from Shar-Peis, Chows and Dalmations to Rotts and Dobies, and who knows, maybe the Japanese Spaniel.... Apparently California is becoming so in-bred that it doesn't realize it's becoming a laughing stock among thinking people. In the 60s, California is where you went "to be free" --the ultimate irony...

I was looking at one of my favorite Pet sites after reading this thread http://www.sugarlandpets.com and something caught my attention.

Intresting names, for life long canine companions:
(Also notice in most of the pics the owner is shirtless, and/or dog is dead)

Trouble - American Pit Bull Terrier/Chihuahua Mix
AK - American Pit Bull Terrier
    Felony - American Bulldog
Hannibal - American Pit Bull Terrier/Sharpei Mix
Little's "Haylie Jayde" - American Pit Bull Terrier
Little's American Gladiator "Kano" - American Pit Bull Terrier

    Hmmm...

Don't worry about the bullet with your name on it, worry about the fragmentation grenade addressed 'To Occupant'.

Saw a book on "The All American Mutt" and it had some neat descriptions of various crossbreeds -- (please excuse spelling)

"Pekenise/ Laso Apso mix-- the peke only speaks to the Laso and the Laso only speaks to God"

"Beagle/Jack Russel mix -- beagle on ampehtimenes"

    and finally

"Pit Bull/Sharpi mix -- a puppy to give your worst ememy after apologising for what you said about them last week"

I really have a problem with this. IF they pass some type of law banning Pit Bulls, that will mean the price of a pre-ban pit bull will skyrocket, right ??.....

Far be it from me to inject any logic into this thread, but you've just stepped into one of my "pet" (no pun intended) peeves. Look through the AKC registry book and you won't find a breed by the name of "Pit Bull". There's no such "breed". The so-called "Pit Bull" is, in fact, theAmerican Staffordshire Terrier. I'm sure you know where they got the name "Pit Bull" so I won't elaborate on that here. They are NOT naturally agressive. They ARE naturally PROTECTIVE. They must be TAUGHT to be agressive. IMHO, anyone who owns an agressive "Staff" (or any dog) should be held TOTALLY liable for any personal injury it causes.
