This seems petty, but does anyone know ...

My wife and 11 month old daughter flew out of KCI at 6:20 a.m. on a trip to visit her parents on 9-11-01. She had to change planes in Denver, while she was in almost there when all the planes were ordered out of the air and her connecting flight was cancelled. She was luckier than most as she was able to arrange to get on a bus (struggling with our daughter, carry-on luggage, a small trunk and carseat) 6 hours after landing. My question is; Will United Airlines refund the canceled portion of her flight or are we just out the $225 (cost of the connecting flight) + 99.95 bus fare?I dont concider myself cheap, I'm damn glad she made it safely. Like everyone I'm outraged and horrified by the murderous attacks and I really feel for the thousands of others that were also stranded ... but thats $325 ... hope I'm not out of line for asking ...

Well,I don't think you are out of line but the airline will probably call it an act of war & refuse to refund your's or anyone else's money. Just my opinion.

I saw a newsclip that stated that the airlines were considering "partial refunds", whatever that amounts to, and that passengers should go to the respective airlines' website for further info. HTH.P.S. - Glad your family is O.K.P.P.S. - $325 is a new gun or a lot of ammo.

I don't think you would be out of line to ask for a refund....you had a contract with them to deliver your wife at a predetermined destination at a predetermined time for a set price. They failed to honor the agreement and owe you reimbursement for the portion they failed to provide. Chances are the tax payers are going to end up paying the bill in the end.

All you can do is ask and see what they say. I don't think you are cheap for asking, that is a lot of money.

Kimberkid....34 years with United. Last 7 at the Dulles ticket counter. By all means ask what the procedure will be. From past experience (and personal decisions) United doesn't want your money under these circumstances. I understand that most, if not all, airlines are refunding ALL tickets upon request. Regardless of whether they indicate a penalty for change or refund. There's going to be enough bad publicity for the airlines without them having to have reports to the media about taking money for these incomplete flights.By the way, the security people are NOT airline employees. They employees of private firms and these firms are hired by the airlines. If you don't get satisfaction from the FIRST person you talk to, keep going up the chain of command until you get the answer you want.Quite often the airlines will offer you a certificate, for future travel, equal to the value of your claim. If that's satisfactory, OK. If not, go up the ladder to the next rung. Mudge

mudge,Our little family of 3 travel 10-15,000 miles per year by air as we both have immediate family that lives some distance from where we are. It's much nicer to be there in 2-3 hours and be able to enjoy the first day there or first day back home instead of being frazzled by a 12 to 24 hour drive each way. Besides, I refuse to give into terrorism ... Although I know some things are going to change I will fight to retain my way of life.God Bless America

My mother told me once that it never hurts to ask, but.....Right now there are many many folks dead and dying whose families and friends would give many many times $325 to have them back. You have your family safe and sound and you cannot put a price on that. It is true that the airline did not complete its "contract" with you, but, they were forced, after all, to land early by the FAA. While I do agree with you that $325 is not an insignificant sum to just "write off", it seems that the totality of the circustances here requires consideration of many perspectives and you have mine.

Kimberkid......Since you travel that much by air, a travel certificate may be acceptable to you. They're usually good for a year and you still get to use "your" money. It's just in the form of what the airlines call an "exchange order". If you're out $325, and the certificate is OK with you, just tell them you want a travel certificate for the $325.I'm interested to know how you make out.E-mail me if you would, to let me know.eneybl1@ix.netcom.comMudge
