Finally broke down and bought the DVD set when the price came down.I am about halfway through. What a great series.I missed alot of it when it was broadcast by PBS.I like it almost as much as his Civil War series, which by the way I think should be required viewing by all Americans.Great history lessons both. What do you all think? Have you seen it and what do you think about it? Interesting to see the years go by in relation to the sport.

Burn's Civil War program was excellent and I have watched it a few times. I always see something I missed evertime I watch it. Maybe he could do one on the history of hockey!!!!!!!!! Anyway hockey is a much more exciting sport than boring old baseball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Knew some of the guys in the film and kinda' brought a tear to my eye.
One of the biggest thrills of my life.....One day I'm in the batting cage while one of the pitchers is working on a knuckle ball. It's not "knuckling" very well and I'm roping some balls to right field. Well, I take two in a row over the right field fence and behind me a voice says: "That swing sure looks a helluva lot better than it did in April." I turn around and it's Ted Williams. Gotta' tell ya' my little heart went THUD..THUD..THUD!!!
But I could talk baseball forever.

Mudge...that's the first time I ever heard of Teddy Ballgame speaking an entire sentence without the "F" word.
Some eye lab did a test for the entire team once to evaluate the players eyes. Used some sort of gizmo that would measure how quickly their eyes could pick up a moving object. Teddy Ballgame came in second to Del Unser. I was about 3/4 of the way down the list.
But speaking of "trash-mouths". The worst I've ever heard was LaSorda.
Joe DiMaggio came in a close second. DiMaggio was a no-class, rude, garbage-mouth. Except when the cameras were on him.
Oh the stories I could tell.....
