DSL stands for "Direct Service Line", mine is about 9-10 times faster than a 56K modem. We just got the service in our area last week.

One small correction: DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line. The company I work for make on of the many units used by the phone company to provide DSL to their customers. But no doubt about it, it is fast. One of versions of DSL is ADSL which has download speeds of anywhere between 640kb/s to 6Mb/s. Compared to 56kb/s for a dial up modem.

Actually, I think its Digital Subscriber Line. In any case, you should see cable Internet speeds. Even faster than DSL, I can get about 2.5Mbps. You can check your connection speed by visiting http://www.computers4sure.com/speed.asp

Whenever I go to the local computer superstore and buy something, they tell me I could get MSN service free for a while (it goes with the purchase). I tell them, "no thanks, I have cable". They say, "yeh, me to. Fast, isn't it"?

I live way too far out to know what cable or dsl is, last one on a mile long dirt road. Long time before cable or dsl gets here. I have been thinking of the sat downlink service from Dish network, which is close, but have to justify it to my wife. Those darn bills dontyaknowyoubecha...Dave
