Anyone Using Gunbroker Email?

nunnnunn Forums Admins, Member, Moderator Posts: 36,017 ******
edited October 2002 in General Discussion
At one time, there was a web-based email service available through Gunbroker. Accounts were something like this: xxxxxx@gunbroker.zzn.

I can't find a link to the service on the site, and I would like to set up a web-based email account.

In the event that this service is no longer available, which is the best FREE web-based email service?

Tough question David. My wife has tried several web-based accounts, but they fill up so fast with smutty spam that she has left all of them. The worst was hotmail. Every day she would get HUNDREDS of
x-rated letters. This was after filtering and blocking the maximum number. I have had pretty good luck with yahoo though. Still get spam, but not the x-rated type.

Taxation WITH representation isn't so hot, either!

Nunn, I use it constantly, with no spam problems. Never any problems sending or receiving mail, and you can use yor MS outlook or foreward all messages to another account if you wish by going to prefrences. The link to sign up is:

    David,
Its still around, on the auction side under "For Buyers" and "For Sellers" there is a link at the bottom of the page under "Third Party Tools" or you can use this link: http://gunbroker.zzn.com/ to get to the sign-up page. You can get 3MB for free or pay a $20 per year and get 25MB, POP service and a bunch of other stuff. I use it for all my gun related stuff, auctions and my address for all the boards I'm registered on ... my email is at the bottom of this post.

    Thanks. Got it.

    New email: nunn@gunbroker.zzn.com

I have not been happy with web-based email in the past, but I am going to try it for awhile, at least for auction business.

    Thanks again.

Nunn (and others): The free email accounts at gunbroker.zzn.com are not maintained and supported by GunBroker.com. This is a co-branding relationship with ZapZone Network (zzn.com). The gunbroker.zz.com is something that is provided as a courtesy to those who want to try web based mail, but since ZapZone runs it we have no way to provide support if there are problems.

In general you are better off using a real email account from either your ISP or a paid email provider than the free web-based email accounts. Common sense dictates that when you give something away for free you are bound to experience compromises. For free web-based email, the compromises may include lost or non-delivered email, email rejected because your inbox is full, service outages, and poor or no support.

We get a TON of bounced email sent to Yahoo.com and Hotmail.com addresses, and receive a ton of complaints such as 'I didn't get my winning bidder notification' from users of free email accounts. I personally would rather delete spam than have to deal with lost email and message delivery problems.

Many ISPs offer a web-based interface that works with your ISP-based email account. This provides the best of both worlds - anywhere access plus reliable delivery. You may want to ask your ISP about this.

My ISP here in Penna, screens out all spam and junkmail, plus it screens out all virus's. My Norton's has not picked up a virus since I switched to this ISP.
It screens out an average of about 30 emails a day for me and it gives me the option to choose who I wish to receive mail from.
I believe the software that does the screening for them is called Postini.

Thanks for the info. Just getting away from the porn spam will be worth it.
