Picked this up in a trade;

Rifle started out as a Japanese?, ended up as a .300 Savage.

All costum work, Mauser action, diamond checkered and polished. custom bolt handle,

Chambered for the .300 Savage. had a scope, but took it off, (*cheap old Weaver) gonna put a good one on it.

Stock is a BISHOP, manlicher style Monte Carlo, custom fitted.

Rear sight, is open, double bladed, with fold down.

WHAT DO YA THINK????? The pics dont do it justice.

    Hi Beekeep
    We were at the gun show in Brooksville... small, but for my first one it was okay... but it seems that everyone there focused on the same guns... Every once in a while you would come across a display with a "different gun".. but most had the same guns...I was talking to 2 retired cops and they turned me onto the SeeCamp... Classic said we would take the gun show in St. Petes in... I am really looking forward to it...

    That looks like a very nice piece of work,there.Sure do like those Mannlicher stocks.
    What part does the 'Japanese' play in the rifle ?
    The 300 Savage is a very neglected cartridge...knew a guy out west who took his elk every year with a 99 Savage .300......

    God,Guts,& GunsHave we lost all 3 ??

    I wasnt at the Motorcycle ride, chose the gun show instead. Hard disiscion to make.

    The receiver and bolt are of japanese decent.

    And Ken, when and if it needs blue touch up you know what I will use.

    That is a sporterized Japanese Arisaka service rifle that someone put a lot of work into. The 300 Savage caliber was achieved by bringing the barrel back 1/2" or so and rechambering or a new sporter barrel was installed. An examination of the rifling style will tell you which. The service barrel was chrome lined and had Medford style rifling. In any event the caliber is appropriate for the strength of the action. I hope the customizer did something with the trigger pull because the original was pretty bad.
    At one time it made sense to sporterize the Japanese Arisaka because of the shortage of strong actions but today with the third world dumping all its finely made,old Mauser service rifles on the American market there are better choices.
    In spite of what you may have read about the Arisaka it is only a 42,000 psi action. It will not come apart at twice that pressure but a constant diet of 50,000 psi, US Govt 30-06 ammo will gradually increase headspace to an unsafe condion.
