Take your pick of ammo....

What ammo do you like to use the most? Which caliber? I love 9mm. Cheap and I am pin point with it. Cheaper is not always better but in the case of the 9mm it is.

If you will blame gun makers for every shooting then blame car maker for every car accident.

I only have a S&w 586 4" right now and it really likes Win 145 gr silvertips. Dosen't do to bad with 38+p 125 gr's either. I keep some of each on hand and in the speedloaders. Also I have noticed the .357 silvertips don't seem to recoil as much as the other .357 rounds I've tried.

I like to shoot 45acp 230gr round nose lead. Thats what I use when I shoot in our combat matches. The steel slams down and it puts nice big holes in the paper too. I have got about 3000 of those rounds through my P-14 Limited with not even a hint of a malf.

.22 is the most fired and cheapest. Of centerfire, since I often shoot cast bullets and reload, most any pistol caliber is the same. Of the centerfire rifle, 8mm Mauser is cheapest right now, though again, handloaded most any costs me the same.

I shoot more 7mm remington magnum than anything else. Federal premium if it comes from the store or handloaded by me. Either way, 150gr nosler balitic tips are the projectile, and when loaded 7828 is the powder.

Pistols, probably 9mm. It is good for practice and you can pick up one of your more expensive calibers and start shooting well right away due to practice with the cheaper caliber.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

    10MM, 357 Sig, 45-70 (540gr) for "kicks"

I use a Sharps 1874 Long Range Express for the 45-70. Painted a 55 gallon drum orange and set it out between 800-1000 yds. Pull the trigger, go in and have lunch, then come back out just in time to see it hit.

.223 and .40 I'm on a budget so I shoot what I can get for cheapest. I guess I should start to re-load but I just quit my job to go back to school so I don't think now would be a good time to start.

I had some .30-30Win cartridges made at a reloader-shop in Denmark and sent to me in Greenland.

He took off the 150grain original PPSP (Powerpoint - SoftPoint) bullet off, and put on a Speer TNT-BT 125Grain instead.
He said it'd give a slight increase in velocity and increased effect on the animal.
I ordered them for fox-hunting, because I sometimes see foxes here - and the newspaper say that some have Rabies and are to be shot on sight.

Maybe the TNT-BT was too much, I don't know - but they were great in my Winchester lever-action I had at that time.
One fox went totally S-P-L-A-T inside, as I hit it in the chest.
They were also great for shooting juice-cartons and those plastic-juice-flask/jugs. They completely explode and the water doesn't quite splat like you'd expect - there's water-spray all over the place and only a small puddle there the carton was.

But I couldn't have more than one in the chamber and one in the bag, as the tip of the new cartridge would possibly set the next one off.

I bought 600 cartridges in Denmark, had it sent to the reloader and had 300 cartridges converted - spent every last cartridge before I sold the gun.
And it was still cheaper to buy in Denmark, then buy them locally here in Greenland.
Here they're about 80-100cents, in Denmark they were about half that price. (It was older cartridges, but stored as any other cartridges - just being sold off.)

Other than that - I love .22LR's, fun, cheap and even a brick of ammo can soon be fired.

But the best for me right now, would be .308Win, for use in my Steyr Scout. =o)
Anything high quality - Hornady, Federal, Norma.. I'd take whatever is around 165-168grains non-coated, that would be used as hunting ammo as well as practise rounds.

    Regards
    Peter E Jeppesen.

I love my silenced .22 Anshutz rifle =o) Now also my Steyr Scout in .308W. ;o_ (Got a Schmidt&Bender 1.5-6*42 on it..)
    Those guns are YUMMMYYYY !

I love my S&W 686 in .357. I love the caliber and the gun is a joy to shoot. I also LOVE shooting 9mm but I prefer .40 S&W or .45 ACP for defense. I bought a Ruger P-series pistol just to plink. However, nothing beats the .22 LR in a rifle or a pistol just for the pure joy and fun of shooting IMHO.
