AK-47 "so powerful its bullets can punch through concrete."

Some idiot down in Florida allegedly "shot up a Riviera Beach apartment complex Saturday with an AK-47 assault rifle."

Or, as this report describes the rifle: "a weapon so powerful its bullets can punch through concrete."

A single shot .22 short can punch through concrete, too -- a sixteenth-of-an-inch thick slab is no match for that much incredibly lethal and alarming dangerous firepower. And just imagine how many of those Concrete Assault Weapons we own.

Now that the secret is out, no concrete will ever be safe again.

Police seek 'maniac' with assault rifle

RIVIERA BEACH -- Police are desperately searching for the man they believe shot up a Riviera Beach apartment complex Saturday with an AK-47 assault rifle -- a weapon so powerful its bullets can punch through concrete.

The suspect, Burgess Johnson Williams, 22, is wanted on nine counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, possession of a machine gun and using a gun in the commission of a felony.

Riviera Beach police Detective Sgt. Pat Galligan said 25 shell casings from an AK-47 were found at the Stonybrook apartment complex, 1555 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., after two shooting incidents Saturday.

The first shooting, around 3 p.m., left one man wounded in the leg. No one was injured in the second shooting one hour later, but five apartments were sprayed with bullets. Eight people were in the apartments when the shooting occurred, five of them children.

Police are on extra alert because of the deadly power of the AK-47, an unusual weapon to find on the streets, Galligan said.

"We're lucky no one was killed. Don't ask me how because that's an incredible amount of firepower," Galligan said. "We have a maniac running around with an assault rifle."

Galligan said police believe the two shootings are connected, although they had no motive as of Sunday afternoon.

Williams is described as having long dreadlocks, gold front teeth and two tattoos on his arms. One tattoo says "Lucky," which police believe is his street alias. The other tattoo is of an upside-down cross.

Police ask anyone with information about Williams to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 458-8477.

"assault rifle" "machine gun" - I doubt it. And when they apprehend the perp, odds are he is a felon already legally barred from possession of any sort of firearm. Great propaganda if you can get it.

They sure are hard to find on the street. I keep looking when out walking hoping to find one just laying on the steet.

    You know what?

I'm so used to seeing specific weapons demonized that it means nothing to me anymore.

Let the people fear it and hate it. It makes no difference to me. I've already got mine. I dont need to buy any more.

And if they try and take it away from me, THEN they will see how dangerous it is.

Now you got me worried. Not only is the AK47 a "sniper" rifle but now it is a "sniper" rifle that can punch through concrete!!!!

Some will say that such an evil weapon has no sporting purpose but they will be wrong. When they do say it, remind them of the SCPC (SCPC = the Sniper Concrete Punching Club, an organization dedicated to the sport of punching holes in concrete from a great distance)

Has anybody told them that the Ruger Mini-30, available at gun stores all over your area, shoots the very same round? And the business about shooting through concrete, you'll notice is very foggy around the reference source material. I don't see any police quoted as describing the round as shooting through concrete. Stucco, as has been said, often used in building in the warmer climes of Florida and California beachfronts, is certainly not concrete -- it's more like dried mud. In fact, maybe it IS dried mud.... I think the tone of this article was set by the use of the word "maniac" in the headline. I think I'm going to coin a new phrase for this one. In terms of attempted accuracy in gun reporting, this is "drive-by journalism."

Let us not forget that you can buy the Mini-30 at many of your friendly local Wal-Mart stores.

I've found it highly unusual to find any weapons on the streets. Debris, litter, tire treads, etc., but relatively few weapons, except when we make a walk-through of a couple of our fine upstanding "social clubs". Then all you hear is the sound of Jennings and Davis hitting the floor, because they don't want to get caught with a handgun on licensed premises.

How can they tell the difference between a 7.62x39 casing fired from a Mini-30, SKS, AK-47, etc? The AK-47 was probably picked out of a hat because everyone knows it's an "evil" weapon.

Another little known fact is that if you mount a scope on the AK47 you can also see through concrete.

Pack slow, fall stable, pull high, hit dead center.
