Love to help you out pal, but you kinda need to describe the problem a little more clearly.Maybe you could take your mittens off before using the 'ol keyboard. You can edit your post by clicking on the little 'paper and pencil' icon, that's next to the icon of the face w/ the ? mark.[This message has been edited by Homer J Simpson (edited 09-26-2001).]

Did you clean it before you shot it? I have found that the cosmoline (sp?) or whatever they use to factory lube it can seize up a rifle if not cleaned off before firing (and left on after being heated by firing). One of my friend's Winchester 30-30's did that because he didn't clean it before shooting.Just a possibility..

maybe i didnt explain that clearly. The bolt in my rifle will not slide back so i can eject my old cartridge.I cleaned it about 15 rounds ago,so i dont think it is because of not being cleaned.anyone know if i can dismantel the bolt to get the old cartridge out?

Did you shoot handloaded ammo? If so, it could have been a cartridge that was a little too hot. Just a little bit of excessive pressure could be enough to prevent the bolt from opening. I had one round that was a little too hot in my Remington M700 .308, and I had to nearly stand on the rifle to get the bolt open.
Better to have and not need, than need and not have.

sharpshoot,if you can lift your bolt handel up,but not back, then do it.Then get a .22 caliber cleaning rod ,slide it down the barrel. If your rifle is bigger than .22 cal,the rod will enter the shell casing.Tap lightly with somethin`,until it comes out.The problem aint the rifle.
Will the last reb to leave flarda, please bring the flag?

Congradulations, now go tell that guy who hates Savages, on your other thread, that it wasn`t the rifle.

Note to 218Beekeep: I did not say that I hated ALL Savage firearms; only their bolt actions. They do not make a bolt action worth a dime. The Savage 99 is a very well built rifle and I will gladly work on them any time. I have seen so many of the 110 model come into the shop with problems that it is not funny. Even straight out of the box I have had them come in with bolts that will not go into battery. The only make of rifle I have ever witnessed this problem with is Savage; quality control is NOT THERE! You can have your opinion and I will have mine; mine is backed up with 20 years in the retail firearms trade and as many years repairing firearms. Until Savage shows me something different I will refuse to sell their newer bolt action rifles in my store. The rifle I mentioned in the other thread was sold to a customer who special ordered the rifle even after I tried to talk him out of it and is one of the new Model 10FM "Lightweight" Sierra rifles. Fourth round of 7mm-08 factory and the ejector failed upon firing. The extractor worked fine, easy extraction, no pressure signs etc. Just the Savage bolt action curse at work; in my opinion. Enjoy your Savage rifles and I hope you never have a problem with any rifle; something none of us want with the toys we enjoy so much.
