Your a Savage man. I came accross a model 23 sporter in 25/20 the other day. It's been refinished and the metal was buffed to the point the markings are almost unreadable. But, the bore is spotless and I think it might be a good shooter. Guy wants $200.00 for it. Should I just pay him and be happy, or should I dicker with him? WOODS

Drop me an email please. I'm wondering what you think a model 20 Barreled action is worth.

Shouldn't a more appropriate name be 218apiarist....then wear a smoking jacket while sipping a cognac with a fine cigar....

don't know about the smoking jacket, but I bet 218 could do the cognac and cigar. In the U.S. beekeepers seem to call themselves beekeepers. Probably a touch of classy humility.

Perhaps he keeps a 218 Bee..a fine,old,quiet,150 yard honey of a cartridge.... And he knows I want it..but he is keeping it all to himself....[This message has been edited by Highball (edited 09-01-2001).]

Hey Rem,this isn`t a smokin jacket I`m wearin`,it`s about the corny`est lookin yellow and black plaid shirt That I`ve ever seen though,I`m sure I wouln`t be caught dead in public in it . Smokin jacket? ,the only thing that comes to mind is that dude in the movie SEVEN YEAR ITCH ,playin Rockmoninof(???) ,and fallin` all over Marilyn Monroe.

Today ones profession tends to get a facelift by giving it a new title....garbage collector is a "sanitary engineer", carpenter's are "environmental habitat technicians", and librarian's are "data information managers". Now a beekeeper should be known as 218apiarist....this gives one the impression of an Allistair Cook type individual retiring to the library in his silk smoking jacket, sipping cognac, and enjoying a fine cigar while listening to Bach.....not sure the name change will work for you though, you need to come up with an English accent in your posts....Although I was trying to be helpful, guess I better stick to something I'm good at....like mowing the yard and washing the dogs....then that would make me a "domestic horticulture manicurist specializing in animal husbandry" [This message has been edited by Rembrandt (edited 09-02-2001).]

Alright,I aint no real beekeeper, nor any of those things Rem suggested. Now boys, keep in mind that Rem is quite a joker, that part about animal husbandry for example,we all know that aint legal, and he`d never really do it. Hey ,did I tell ya I`m out of town, yeah,I`m up here in Kissimmee,it`s next to Orlando.I`m at my nephews house,I got up before them, can`t find the coffee maker, hope he can find it,after all he is a P.I.

Of course, the original consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes was known to smoke cigars upon occasion, drink Cognac (when there was no whiskey or port around) wore a smoking jacket betimes, and when he retired to the south downs he was in fact a beekeeper. Not a bad role model all things considered. Maybe 218 and his nephew could team up. The nephew could do the detecting and 218 could specialize in the Cognac and Cohibas...Hey, and maybe Rembrandt could bee the apiarist!

I just read that the 218 Bee was a semi hot lever gun cartridge developed by Winchester in the 1930's to give lever guns a chance to keep up with the .22 Hornet. Was it a successful cartridge or like my .40-82 too little too late? Beach

He Dog, I better shy away from that apiarist position....been stung too many times. But I would be pleased to join all of you in the study for a spot of tea and a good conversation....(smoking jackets are optional).

Most satisfactory my dear Rembrandt. Perhaps we should make that a spot of tea in a white tail camp? (smoking jackets in hunter orange required)

He Dog,Rem,HighBall, legn4,shane,and beach, maybe a good cold mexican beer or two now and then, and we could retire to the study, for a cuban coffee, cigar if you like, but ya gotta cut out that fag talk.I`ll show you boys my Savage M-20s in 250-3000 & 300 ,my 99s,and maybe I`ll even show ya my Bees. I`m still in Kissimmee, fixin to drive 3 or 4 hours home,I`d better leave now ,I enjoy the backroads, as long as I can see.Check ya later tonight, from home. .218

Well,I made it home at midnight, got a late start, made 4 stops for burger/fries,coffee,twice for ice cream, all that in 200 miles. If you think thats bad, you should ride with me from down here in south west fla to my place in west virginia sometime.Rem,He Dog ,if my good friends in WV ever got wind of me wearin` a smokin jacket, smokin cigars and sippin cognac, well,my days of fittin` in would be over.

Beekeep, guess I better come clean....I don't drink or smoke, and I don't have a smoking jacket....just wasn't enough money for those things and guns too.....so there you have it, I'm just a wanna be "sophisticated country gentleman" hiding behind a computer listening to classical music. Just something about the way the English go hunting, dressed in fine tweeds and a nice side by side for a day in the country. Seems so refined.Beekeep, your country humor posts kinda remind me of Jerry Clower, one of my favorite country comedians...[This message has been edited by Rembrandt (edited 09-03-2001).]

Rem,I`m gunna look like the ol` boy if I`m not careful. If you like ol` Jerry ,you`d have really liked my uncle ,Bubba Williams, any time we had a get together,(like after a funeral, when we would all go to somebody`s house and eat etc.,as is tradition down here)he`d have us crackin`up. He died a couple of years ago,and there was no one to make us laugh after his funeral. But we did talk about guns.[This message has been edited by 218Beekeep (edited 09-03-2001).]

Hmmm....Cohibas. I haven't had one of those wonderful cigars since I was in Panama a few years ago. *sigh* I've never been a liquor man but ev'ry couple years a truly fine cigar is a wonderful thing to enjoy.

idsman75,I used to go to this little cuban place, they made the best roast pork sandwich ever.Behind the glass, in the meat cooler, there were always Cohibas ,some with the ends all messed up,just scattered around. The guy just didn`t care,he sold out and moved back to Miami.Man them were good sandwiches.

For anyone who did not know ,I am not a beekeeper,Highball had it right,I Keep a couple of rifles in .218-Bee.Rembrandt,on the other hand could not resist the temptation to paint a portrait of this Everglades swamp rat as a fine english gentleman wearing a smoking jacket, while sipping cognac, and smoking a fine cigar.......Rem.,your imagination took you as far away from reality as it has ever been!

There'a a boat paddled by a Mossberg every day somewhere....with or without a smoking jacket. Just someone forgot the gas and oar. Sometimes you just gotta say "sh**t!"
  • RembrandtRembrandt Member Posts: 4,486 ✭✭

I have no problem using a Mossberg for a boat oar.....but if you have any plans to use a Browning Superpose for water propulsion, let me know, I'll gladly trade you a Mossberg for it. Besides, a fine Superpose goes better with my smoking jacket....
