How about a Savage 340C bolt action in 30-30! It's barely 40" long with a 21" barrel and Walnut stock. Anyone here have any experience with such a rifle?

I`ve got one ,brother,it was the least expensive bolt action centerfire rifle made at the time it came out.Ive had a little trouble with the ones in hornet, but the 30-30 is a very dependable rifle, much better than a lot of more expensive rifles. It is nice to have a bolt action 30-30,Not very purdy though!!!.218

My grandfather had one in 30-30. Saw it take several deer in the SW PA woods. Seems to be a decent deer rifle. He swore by it.

218Beekeep, Purdy is as Purdy does! I'm not sure how "Purdy" this one will be, but it's not too hard on the eyes. Hope to get a bit of range time in tomorrow. stanman, this one is really pretty clean, action is tight, bore is bright and the screw heads are not all goofed up. Asking price was $125.

Hey Bee, I get the Purdy reference. That is painting contractor speak for 'pretty'.Otherwise, a line of very well made paint brushes - (for those who don't speak painter.)But still, I also think that our southern friend may just mispronounce words (mispro-type words?) because, well, he's from the south, and they are still reconstructing the educational system.

First shot @ 25 yards cut black so I quit! And moved to 100 yards, 3 shots went around 5" which wasn't bad considering the cross wind and the bumpy road....

Beast, How else? If you're going to hunt from the road, you should practice from the road. Right? No remote trigger pulling anything, against the law here.218Beekeep, nope, appears to be some custom sights, has what amounts to a small set screw at the front with a blob of solder and a "V" filed into it for a rear. The front site pretty well hides anything you could want to shoot at 100 yards. So once the target is covered up with the set screw just move it into the V blob and jerk the trigger right quick.
