Just spent a day out around everyone in town.Jeez I hate city folks. Rude, stuck up SOB's in my book. It'll only get worse after Thanksgiving, with the shopping craze going on. I've about made up my mind that America would be a great place to live if it wasn't so damn full of americans. No wonder other countries hate us, hell, after today, I hate us! Don't get me wrong, I love the good ole US of A, fought in the gulf war for her, just ranting, I guess. thanks for letting me vent.

Reb, thanks for being a vet! Be very thankful that you do not live in NJ. Here you will find the most rude, obnoxious, un-friendly people in the country, except for me

Some social scientists, and common sense, postulate that population density is an independent factor for crime: as more and more people are jammed together in a small space, tensions get high. I believe it, as I have lived in both types of places.A dense population like the greater Washington DC area I now live in (unfortunately) turns even the nicest guys- like me- into howling, road-raging, bird-flipping, maniacs who when stuck in traffic start saying things like, 'What's the F@#%#$%^$# hold up! Somebody better be smeared all over the road for traffic to be THIS slow!" Which only gets worse when the traffic lets loose and it was only people rubbernecking an accident on the other side of the divide.Yup, sure would like to move to a slower pace.

I read an article way back when, about a population study in rats. The findings showed that as living space declined, sexual perversion in males, and abandonment of young by females, increased. It still makes me wonder...

While one cannot draw directly from studies on rats to make conclusions about human behavior the parallels do seem striking. Clearly urbanization and dense populations do result people seeking refuge in social distance and disengaging from socialization with strangers. Then again I have been about as many small towns where folks don't cotton to strangers as small town where folks are friendly and helpful. Reb I think the best answer to your urban holiday blues is buy your self a nice new rifle!

Small town not "cottoning" to strangers???? My Dad moved our family into a small town, (population on sign said 172) back in 1967 and as far as the oldtimers around there say, He and I quote "ain't from around here" But it still beats a big town all to heck and back,

Sandman, LOL - I know a gent that really hates it when I call him a flat lander Ma$$hole. He insists he is a native, and I take great joy in pointing out that he moved here - at the age of 1 month - roughly fifty years ago. In the better neighborhoods of this country, you ain't a native until the last person who remembers when you moved in has passed away. And REB, I agree w/ you. If the urban centers were purged of most of their population (leaving the good folks such as those we know from this forum), I sure would have a much better attitude. Finally, to add one thing to your point, cp, I notice I turn into the same kind of rude idiot the closer I get to Boston on the few occasions I absolutely must visit that cess pool. I don't know if it's entirely psychological - might be something in the air, perhaps the scent of PC BS? Sorry for the rant; have so damn many rude tourists hereabouts it's a *real* sore spot. Worst thing that ever happened to NH was when they built the north-bound Interstate lanes.

Ya know, my guidence counselor recommended me for a job as a hermit on my report card once, just didn't pay much is all!Have always dreamed of moving to Wyoming, don't know anyone from there, so either its empty, or it's so nice no one ever leaves. After my original post of this topic I almost deleated it so as not to offend any of you great guys and gals around here who have the (bad) luck to have to live in or near a city. Decided to let it stay as I am married and as such have learned to enjoy a good argument( ever want a fight just be a yankee and drive WAY south to Louisiana and pick up a gal about 6 years younger than yourself, then move her back to the north) Ok I'm back, anyway, I honestly have learned a lesson in tolerance here, found a few whom think live myself, and learned something to boot (population density studies and rodent behavior) not joking, glad I left this post and glad to know ya guys and gals!PS I do believe I deserve a new rifle come to think of it! Haven't bought any this year! No wonder I feel Bad, Got rid of one though, traded an old Garand for an 82 HD sporster 25 yr ed 1000, Guess I did OK! He had just gotten it detailed and it is a beauty!

Lived here (Hamlin, NY) for most of my life. I can remember the first traffic light. Now the ol' home town is turning suburb. Every time I see a basement being dug it feels like thier ripping my heart out. There used to be a nice spot down the road, where you could sit on the tailgate of your truck and watch some real pretty sunsets. When you were there people would drive by and wave & you knew who they were. Now some stranger throws you the bird because he has to look where he's goin on his way to the new golf course.I'd leave but then I'd be one of them somewhere else. It makes me want to cry sometimes. The woods my family used to own is being developed now. I would have liked to have shown the new owners a few things about thier land, but they were in too big a hurry to bulldoze them trees. You boys in Jackson, OH know anyone named King? I got some family on mom's side there.WOODS
