Just curious, as I've only jumped twice, but isn't 3,000' low?

My freefall's were at 10,500'. Is the 3000 for stactic line?

static line combat jumps go as low as 500'...no need for a reserve though. You can freefall at 3000'...short ride though.[:)]

My Brother-in-law talked me into it several years ago. It was a blast!!! The only problem was - it knocked loose a kiddney stone, and I was in severe pain for 2 weeks until it passed.... I would still do it again - maybe[;)]

Robjacks is doing a static line jump if from 3,000 feet AGL.

According to the BSRs the minimum pack opening altitude for the main parachute for a safe deployment for expert licensed sport parachutists is 2,000 feet AGL. In the event of a malfunction it takes an average of 1,500 feet for a parachutist to recognize a malfunction and take action to activate the reserve parachute.
Generally it takes an average of about 350 feet +/- of fall for a parachute to fully deploy once activated. Wow, only a 150 foot margin of safety[:0]. LongRanger and anybody else up for a low pull contest[}:)]?

I've made 99 sport jumps, got my B license, and can attest to the thrill and addictiveness of the sport. I ran out of money several years ago when I went back to school and now have other things to spend my money on. I will go back one day and do that 100th jump though.

I made five static line jumps. That was a lot of fun. Very scary on the first one.
I decided I was going to get serious about getting air time and switched over into hang gliding and really got into that.
Still, that 60 second free fall has got to be something great.
ps I did pack a neat little reserve chute while hang gliding. Never got the chance to use it, thank God.

It is a rush! I have only made 378 jumps. Sixteeen sponsered by the
U.S. Army. All the rest were by choice-not real smart, but okay.
3,000 Ft. is what I did in America froma a Cesena 172? Too long ago. Jumped at 12,500 Ft. as a surprise for a WW 11 vet's birthday. I believe that I am out of the game now but it really was fun. I have talked w/ WW11 Vets that said they jumped as low as 500 Ft.- possibly
    lower. Good luck, 101

Yes she is still alive!!! She tandem jumped with her instructor. She said that they Free-fell for a little bit , then the instructor pulled the cord. I thought she said from 10,500 Feet!!! I'll get her to tell you all about it![:D]

HEY Im back.....and i survived the trip, boy was i wrong on the footage,it wasnt 3000ft, it was 10,500, my son told me different to be sure i didnt back out on my present....Oh what a present it was, i have never felt anything like this in my life,i cant even think of anything remotley comparible, first off it was really cloudy so we ended up going up in a little tiny thing,[,cesna]we hardly all fit,and as i am sitting backwards under the pilots arm i am checking out the hatch, and stuff around it, much to my dismay i see there is a ton of duct tape holding some parts on this began my anxiety soaring, then i heard my son and his instuctor talking about how high we were, and i could of swore they said approaching 10,000 ft,this was the sure onset of a full blown attack .At this point i knew my son was dead one way or the other, if the fall didnt kill him i surley was,but it only got better,my instructor opens this so called hatch and tells me that i have to step out on this piece of pipe about 1 inch in diameter,im thinking for sure he is kidding, but before i could even think i was indeed hooked by 4 hooks tightly to this man i never met, trusty him totatlly at this point{what real choice was there]and he said whenever im ready jump, so i catch my last 2 breathes i felt i would ever take and jumped, the actuall next 50 seconds were like a flash to what i always believed would be called hell, i couldnt think, breath,or concentrate, but quess what for some god forsaken reason my urinary tract could still function and boy did it,lucky me three times at that , i quess i have no trouble urinating under pressure, but anyway once the shoot opened and i regained some what breathing functions the rest was awesome,i have never seen anything so peaceful or beautiful in my life, and i will absolutley do it again....only this time DEPENDS HERE I COME....

    Good for you!
For those who have never tried it, they'll never understand.
It's a (beautiful) rush! Best I can compare would be skin diving, and that really doesn't come close.

Congratulations Robjacks on your first jump now you know why birds sing. The duct tape and torn away insulation in the aircraft is just our inducement for wuffos to jump and so you can say I never jumped from a perfectly good airplane.

What parachute center did you go to and did you get a video or stills of your jump?

Again, congratulations for taking that big step[:)].

Ahh yes, the Cesna, the trusty steed of old and many smaller DZ's. A long ride up to think about what your about to do! That is the scariest part of your first jump.

I am glad you had a good time. Be sure to share your experience with your friends. You will never look up at the sky and think of it as the same.

Robjacks you jumped at one of the oldest and best drop zones in Ohio.
I have known Bobby and his family for a good many years way back to when we jumped those round things. They are a really good group of people there and take care of you like family.

Ihave a question for anyone who has jumped, was it unusual for me to feel all the anxiety on the freefall part of the jump?I honestly felt like i couldnt breathe i kept trying to get air but the wind was so fast i just couldnt,i almost felt disoriented like i was gonna pass out,is this normal????

Normal for newbies who jump. The military has thrown me out of many a aircraft and the first couple times I felt like that.

Next time before you jump try something I always did.....take several deep breaths and hold the last one and as you exit the aircraft let it out slowly through the mouth and enjoy the feeling of your intestines pressing against your spine.

I'm not sure if it's unusual or not, but I never felt that after making the decision to leave the bird. I was anxious before leaving the plane, but once I jumped...it all disappeared...I guess once the decision has been made, there's no turning back...at least in my mind anyway. I had a chute malfunction on my 5th jump...had to use the reserve...now that, is nerve racking! Congrats! You have now experienced something that 99% of the world will never experience. As my earlier post stated...There is nothing as peacefull...and beautiful... Truly awesome.[:D][8D]

If you aint scared you aint normal. All those feelings and reactions are normal.

Go do it again and experience the thrill without the sensory overload of the first jump. This time you will know the routine and what to expect. Get a video of you jump so you and family/friends can enjoy your experience over and over and it is an extra treat to see the camerman fly into you during freefall.

WARNING: The activity of skydiving is highly addictive!
