Got to shoot a MG-42 WOW!!!!!!!!

Went to my shooting range today to shoot my new AR-15 45 ACP upper today. Low and behold a friend my wife used to work with shows up and plops down a tripod. He then comes back with a MG-42 machine gun and a thousand rounds of ammo. I and most everyone else at the range stopped what we were doing and just settled in to watch. He started out with some short bursts and then let loose about 200 rds. With the tripod locked in place you could easily keep the pattern of bullets locked onto a small area at 600 yds. He then let me fire a 250 rd belt. Its just too cool to describe. I had brought 250 rds. of 308 for my HK-91 but we linked that up and he insisted that I shoot that. Later he sandbagged me telling me that his glock was jamming and for me to shoot it to see if he was limp wristing it. When I squeezed the trigger it was a full auto Glock-18 with a 30 rd clip. Fired that in short bursts untill it was empty. It was incredible the way a normal trip to the range turned into a once in a lifetime experience just like that.

Ah, this is all strictly legal, right?Hey, Thursday I had my electron gun on full auto, squirting 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 of those babies every second. Does that count? (Just jealous.)

An MG-42 AND a Glock 18? Where does this guy live and how can I get him to adopt me?

Its all legal, since the last time I saw him he has become a class 3 dealer. The last time I saw him he was shooting a semi-auto AK-47 and checking out my M1A. Now he seems to have one, and sometimes more of everything.

Was it as fast as they say? 1000-1200 rpm? Wow! I have long wondered how I could ever get together the cash to get one of those things. Does having it in .308 instead of the 8mm original slow it down?

Seem to remember they called it "Hitler's Zipper" because of the high rate of fire...

Rate of fire is the same as 8MM. It shoots so fast there is no one shot, just a growl. Rate of fire is 20 rds a second. I would fire a one second burst at a boulder 600 yds. away and get to hear the twenty slugs all hit at almost the same time.

That is really, really, really something. It has long been my dream gun and I could not imagine how elated I would be to get to handle one, much less burn through a belt. Thanks for making my day!

Fun is to go to a MILITARY gun show ,some letyou use a 20mm automatic cannon $20 a shot> If you hit a drum half a mile away you get tofire the whole box ,I hit it center square with the first shot ,flipped the lever to full auto and ripped the soul out of it ,that sure is darn fun to last a lifetime. I still have the 1 shot brass i paid for...
Good , Bad ? Who cares? as long I am the one with the GUN... and the brains !

If you get a pleasant visceral squirm reading steve45's account you are a gun-nut.I'm with mlincoln (write that down somewhere), I've always wanted to shoot the MG42. I've heard them being exercised but to unload that much firepower out of your own hands has got to be the ultimate earthly rush.Clouder the Envious.

Cough! Choke! (Wiping slobber off his mouth with the back of his hand). Yeah! I think I just wet myself! And I thought I was lucky to go to those places in Vegas where you can fire Uzis, Thompsons, and stuff!
