Gun group targets MauserBy The Associated Press Saturday, November 17, 2001 - A gun-rights group that has criticized Tom Mauser, whose son was killed in the Columbine High School rampage, for his gun-control activism has posted "wanted" posters in his neighborhood and on the Internet.ON THE NET Mauser's siteTyranny Response Team Posters by the Tyranny Response Team, founded by Libertarian gubernatorial candidate and former Longmont gun store owner Bob Glass, call Mauser unstable and prone to violent anger, and say he is "fraudulently profiting from the tragic death of his son" by conducting "memorial scams." The posters ask people to contact local officials or the Tyranny Response Team if they spot Mauser. The group, which describes itself as "America's only no-compromise, grassroots, pro-freedom, pro-Bill of Rights group out there," hung posters around Mauser's neighborhood and around Columbine, and posted it on the Internet in early October after Mauser spoke at a gun-control forum."When I'm trying to deal with issues and they go to personal attacks, it just strengthens my resolve," Mauser said Friday. He said neighbors told him about the posters."I've grown a little bit used to it in a way," he said.Glass was traveling Friday and unavailable for comment.Mauser, who led the campaign last year for a successful ballot initiative requiring all sellers at gun shows to conduct background checks on gun buyers, has been targeted by hate mail previously, including death threats.Glass has denied any involvement in threats by members of the Tyranny Response Team. He has said members try to highlight the threat of abridging the constitutional right to bear arms.Daniel Mauser, 15, was one of 13 people killed by Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold in their attack on Columbine on April 20, 1999.On his Web site, Mauser said he can live with the hate mail in part because he has already endured the death of his son."Second, I recognize that in his 15 short years of life, my son Daniel probably developed more knowledge of this world, more respect and compassion for others, and more common decency, than all these jerks and cowards have in however many years they've been on this earth." http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1002,54%7E229200,00.html
