Found my Lyman 45-90 dies there for $36 out the door. Cheapest around here or on the web $50. Some very good deals to be had in there discount room! Really ashame my wife had me on a short leash! Maybe next time I can sneak up there by myself (buisness trip Need lot's of cash) Then figure out what to tell here when I walk in with all my new toys!!
Anyone ever gets by Sidney NE try and stop in at Cabela's, you wont be disapointed!!

I was on a transcontinental cruise a few years back, destination South Dakota. I routed the trip to go by the Cabela's south of Minneapolis. That place is awesome! Anyone who hasn't been, I can't even describe it.

They're one of my favorite stops....since my work takes me all over the country, had a chance to visit nearly all of them. Just bought a couple of "Quail lamps" at the Dundee location last week...The Michigan location has a complete home furnishings department...1st class. Can't wait for the new one in Kansas City to open this fall.

Here is a link to their other locations:

We have a cabelas in South Dakota now they are located in Mitchell right of I 90.
The kids enjoyed it very much as they would like me to take them hunting everyday.
All the live fish in tanks and they even have a stream with trout in it kids though that it was the greatest place in the world.
I think they have every animal in north america mounted in it some where.
I would iamgine they are all the same inside arent they?
i also could spend many many dollars there :-)

I dont give my guns without somebody getting hurt!

    Cowdoc,
Each one is different....the one in Michigan has an indoor laser shooting range (no live rounds) but it's a ball to shoot...I think nearly all have indoor archery ranges. Wildlife exhibits are different from store to store. Sidney had about the nicest collection of hunting rifles in their "gun library"....Dundee has one of the nicer "gun libraries", lots of side by sides. Makes you want to put on a Smoking Jacket and lounge around with a glass of cognac....sort of what I imagine Lord BeeKeepers study to look like....

    Rembrandt,
Shows how much I get to the city, I didn't even know we had one in Michigan. I am already planning a trip. Thanks.

I was up in Sioux Falls, SD on business today and had the company car. It was so tempting to veer 90 miles west and hit the Mitchell location *sigh*. I'll have to satisfy my devious desires in Owatonna, MN on my way up to Minneapolis in a few weeks.

I see some of you stopped at the mn location. Next time that way stop at Morristown Mn. and visit Ahlmans. Every time I go there I have to buy someting. They even have parts for alot af new and old guns. I got a slide stop lever assembly for my SW40V that isn't even made anymore because of a lawsuit glock had on them. I couldn't even find one on the web. I have never seen that many guns in one room before. I cant remember if it is 3000 or 5000 guns that they advertise they have in stock.

Is Morristown, MN very far of the beaten path of 35W?

If you know where the Cabelas is in Owatonna, its about 20 mi north by northwest from there. Its about 8 mi west of faribault on hiway 60.
I dont live near the cities, I live near Mankato and I dont know that area up near there to much since I've only lived here less than two years and in two weeks I again am moving back to Phoenix where there is less mositos and no snow but I do suggest to visit ahlmans if you get a chance. They also have a website at www.ahlmans.com
    check it out

Yep, Owatonna MN is just south of the Twin Cities on I-35W. It's a ritual to stop there and browse. I wonder if I will get special priviledges with my Cabelas Club Visa. Hmm..never bothered to ask. Maybe a complimentary cigar and a snifter of cognac?

Try Outdoor World, This place blows away Cabelas!! They also have boats, fishing, guns, ammo, hunting or fishing lic.,name it in the sporting goods world and they have it. Cabelas is great if there is no Outdoor World. Cabelas is a little more pricey.

    Shoot straight!

Both Cabela's and Outdoor World are great places to buy a lot of things, but you can only buy guns at either one if you like vanilla.

I mean that they really do not have a lot of variety and that what you see is the top 10 or 12 sellers. No really interesting calibers, no, really interesting rifles (or pistols!) just meat and potatoes stuff. That is great, but sometimes a fella does like a little dessert! Cabela's does have (at Sidney anyway) a room of older "collectable" rifles which spice things up a little.

Actually, I have found that the Cabelas store in Owatonna, MN does have quite a wide variety of firearms. Heck, they even let me dry-fire a Para-Ordnance LDA just to get the feel of how the double action trigger felt. I'm still split between my traditional tastes in 1911's and my new-found infatuation for that beautiful double-action pull on the LDA.

Hedog, each one has a collectible library and plenty of used guns...I've seen more nice collectibles at Cabela's than I have at some gun shows...I bought my Renaissance High Power from them. Gander Mountain is certainly vanilla as you describe.

I am not really putting them down, I like them too, and shop in person every year or two (always take a pickup!). I even have a Cabela's Visa card which kicks back 1% as credit at Cabela's. In about two years, I am going to go up and pick out a free rifle (I am a patient sort).

i have yet to go "way down south" to any of the stores, but i get to the one in east grand forks, mn. every other month or so. it normaly cost me 50 to 75$ to get out the door. their gun selection seems pretty good to me, i would say there is about 200 rifles, and about 100 shotguns on hand, but i'm use to small hick country stores. just my 2cents.

I like Cabelas because I can walk in and find absolutely anything that I am looking for. I go to the local sporting goods stores (SCHEELS) and they don't have what I need or else they just have a cheap knock-off version of what I need. I was up in Sioux Falls, SD yesterday for work so I stopped in at Scheel's looking for some silica gel packs or a Browning dehumidifier (silica with the name "BROWNING" on it) and they didn't have any. The guy in the gun section said he ordered some months ago and he stopped ordering it because they never send it when he orders it. I should have told them that the Sioux City Scheel's has double their share but I kept my mouth shut. Cabelas may cost a few cents more but it's worth the stop.

The Bass Pro Shop in Springfield is the same as Outdoor World mentioned earlier. They have even less selection of fire arms than Cabela's. Cabela's is far superior on ammunition as well.

I live 11 miles from the Dundee Michigan Cabelas. War is hell or so Sheridan said...but someone has to do it! The gun library there is truly incredible. I don't know which Cabelas He Dog went to but I've seen an Holland and Holland bolt gun made in 1912 in 375 Magnum(what they called the 375H&H Mag in 1912), I've seen an old somewhat rough 1895 Winchester stamped with an safari outfitters name in Calcutta India in .405 Winchester(I'm still kicking my self on that one..I knew I wanted it...went home to think about it, came back about 4 hours later and it was gone), they have some beautiful drillings, some original saddlering Winchesters, and enough pre 64 Winchesters to wet your appetite. On the shotgun side which I don't look at too much they have Parkers, Krieghoffs, Perazzis and other Italian crap, some JP Sauers, and saw a Holland and Holland several months ago but it disappeared. That sound fairly varied to me.

What is really tough though is deciding of the spur of the moment to go to lunch there and have to look at that magnificent indoor mountain with its animals in all their splendor while eating my bison sandwich...Ah the things we do for our country; PETA would be proud of us! If any of you get to Cabella's in Dundee give me a callup before hand and I'll meet you there for lunch. Also don't miss out on the bargain cave. You can get returned or damaged merchandise for a song. Last Thursday I got a $55 tumbler for $25..Nothing wrong with it except I guess the guy didn't like the color. I'm waiting for a pre 64 Winchester model 70 in .22 Swift to arrive and I intend to jump on it when it does. I've got to think the store in Sidney may have the best Gun Library because a friend of mine who works in the Dundee store told me Sidney had the largest collection; BUT if you see something at another store they can make arrangemnets for you to get it through your own Cabelas. Beach,
I usually get up to the Dundee location a few of times each year...in fact just there about a week ago....I'll give you a call next time, lunch is on me....(now that I've said that there will probably be a dozen guys show up claiming to be the real Beach). Wish I had a couple of those talking/moving head mounts like the Moose and Deer they have above the shooting range.

Rembrandt...I'll bring my .40-82 Winchester out there and let you shoot it at our range(about 3 miles from Cabelas)..if there is another 1886 Winchester in 40-82 within a 100 miles I'll eat my cap. Beach

    Idsman,
I've eaten at the Cabela's in Dundee on several ocassions, nothing quite like sitting by the fireside and looking out over that mountain filled with wild game....food isn't too bad either....of course there was he time we had breakfast in the restaurant at Mt Rushmore, just below the monument as the early morning sun illuminated the faces...words can't describe it....

    Beach,
I may be in your area sooner than expected, leaving in the morning early.....email me if you get a chance, perhaps we can hook up for lunch.... renaissancehighpower@yahoo.com

All the folks at Cabela's are SUPER great people. I had tables next to them at a huge collectors show, and they were a pleasure to be next to. The gun library managers from Sidney, Owatonna, and the new store they are building in Kansas City were all there....what a polite, and professional bunch. These guys love firearms, and are always open to making a trade, or a deal. BTW...Matt, at the Dundee store, is one of the "Good Guys"..ask him about his son that shoots precision air rifle.

A few years ago, when I still actually drove trucks, the company I was leased to did a lot of Cabela's freight. The volume of merchandise was overwhelming.....at catalog print time we had a dozen semi-loads of catalogs....3-4 semi loads of decoys weekly....weekly loads of footware from Quebec, Canada....and the last load I hauled, was a whole semi load of firearms.

This whole company is just a good bunch.

All the Cabela's gun libraries are connected by computer. They can tell you what guns are in the libraries of the other stores. I have them do it by phone. I am about a hour away from the one in Mitchell SD.
