Driving from West Virginia to Maine for vacation, will be heading back Saturday July 4th. Was wanting to stop on our way back for the night to enjoy the 4th. Any stops you'd recommend from Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York?

Well, I'm on vacation! You see, Mrs NJRETCOP and her sister went to Las Vegas for the week, (her sister is a convention delegate). Soooo, that means I'm on vacation too, hehe.

Anybody know an 18 year old blonde who isn't busy this week (prefer female, lol)

Billy Bob and Luther were talking one afternoon when Billy Bob tells Luther,
"Ya know, I reckon I'm 'bout ready for a vacation. Only this year I'm gonna do it a little different. The last few years, I took your advice about where to go. Three years ago you said to go to Hawaii. I went to Hawaii and Earlene got pregnant. Then two years ago, you told me to go to the Bahamas, and Earlene got pregnant again. Last year you suggested Tahiti and darned if Earlene didn't get pregnant again."

Luther asks Billy Bob, "So, what you gonna do this year that's different?"
Billy Bob says, "This year I'm taking Earlene with me."

Going on vacation next week, going to visit Tucson AR,Grand Canyon,Las Vegas and Area 51.Thought while I was down that far I would go across into Mexico and maybe shop.Whats the deal about ID etc.I dont want to drive across but walk, and park on this side. Are there proper parking areas, the reason I ask is because we will be camping and the car will be loaded and I normally take a rifle or two play with while I am away so I certainly dont want to get ripped off in a bad part of town.Any one know the best places to cross,I would lik to cross as close to Tucson as possible.

I was on vacation last week. I had a family reunion in Indiana. I visited relatives in Illinois and my Sis in Sparta Tennessee, about ten miles above Sparta, way up in the mountains in the middle of nowhere there is a graveyard where my dad and a lot of family are buried. Sis took us up there to see Dads headstone. We had not been there since the funeral . We get out of the car and up the hill there was a flock of turkeys about 30 birds. I got a couple of pics but it doesn't show how enormous this flock was. Any way I thought it was really cool that they where there.

Swing through South Dakota and into the Black Hills, see Mt Rushmore, the caves and other tourist sites, go to Wall, SD and check out Wall Drug...then on to Wyoming and repel down Devils Tower...well it's a thought...then there's Buffalo Bill Museum....you'll probably run out of time....lots to see.

Points of interest are the way to go. However if you have the time, and a GPS unit, you could do something a little more adventurous. There's a site called geocaching.com that lists the coordinates for literally thousands of things nationwide. Some are things that people have hidden at the ends of trails. Some things are locations of historically significant items. One thing my son and I spent a weekend to go find ended up being an old ghost town. Might not be what you had in mind, but it is fun. The feeling you get when you say "I actually found it!" is really great.

I agree with Rembrandt, Buffalo Bill and Ballard's Gun Works in Cody, WY. We just went through there 2 weeks ago. There is Bill's hunting lodge, just 2 miles outside the east entrance of Yellowstone. Ballard's is on the same road as you enter Cody, on your left..

I agree with BlueTic, at the gun works in Cody you can spend most of a day just drooling, I did.

If I knew then, what I know now.

Little Big Horn Battlefield at just north of Lodge Grass Mont. Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole. Devils Tower in Wy. (with trout fishing on Sand Creek just east of Sun Dance. Black Hills in SD. Far as I can tell there isn't much in N. Dakota but farms.

The middle and Eastern parts of N. Dak. are pretty much just small towns and farm fields, pretty scenery this time of year, probably no nicer than anywhere else, though.

The Southwestern part of the state is totally different. Rugged Badlands, beautiful! Check out the Theodore Roosevelt National Park there. Small town of Medora along I-94 is a well known tourist stop. They have the Roughrider musical, a "pitchfork fondue", lots of other stuff to see and do there.

Fort Abraham Lincoln, near Bismarck/Mandan, also along I-94, but more towards the South central part of the state, is worth visiting.

One of the best fisheries in the country, Lake Sakakawea, very large impoundment, is in the central part of the state; northern pike, walleye, salmon, smallmouth bass, many more species found there. The lake is so large that N. Dak. actually has more miles of shoreline than California!

If you get up this way, and into the central part of the state, let me know, I'll buy ya a cold one.

Just bringing this back to the top for ya, Barto. It was already about halfway down page 2; figured if more folks saw it, maybe you would get some more ideas posted.

Are you getting as far north as northern Montana? If so, don't fail to take the Going To The Sun Highway through Glacier National Park. Try to do it on a weekday. I last rode it on a Saturday and the traffic was so bad it was stop-and-go, inch along, the whole way through the park. Made for a pretty miserable motorcycle ride.

Rembrandt beat me to the SD stuff. You we be on the road during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis SD. and will be seeing THOUSANDS of Harleys the closer you get to SD.
