~ Tough Love vs. Spanking ~

(a psychological conundrum)

Most of America's populace think it improper to spank children,
so I have tried other methods to control my kids when they have one of "those moments."

One that I found effective is for me to just take the child
for a car ride and talk.

They usually calm down and stop misbehaving
after our car ride together.

I've included a photo below of one of my sessions
with my son, in case you would like to use the technique.

    You can always tell if kids are in fear of being spanked...they are the ones who know just how much they can misbehave....and then snap into these little angels...mine are CONSTANTLY on a roller-coaster of good and bad. I think they have muliple personality disorders sometimes.

    They are certain to fit in well here one day....[:D]

    I've never raised a hand to my children. Not because I think my parenting methods are superior to anyone elses, as I am FAR from the "perfect parent", and not to say that I haven't been mightilly tempted to do so, especially now that I have a teenager, and two pre-teens, all of whom can be quite "mouthy". However, I could never reconcile with myself the "do as I say, not as I do" philosophy of parenting. In my mind, what is being taught is that it is proper to physically strike someone when angry or frustrated.
    Do that to a coworker or neighbor who is pi$$ing you off, and it's called assault.
    So, why is it OK to strike someone who is smaller, intimidated by, and dependent upon you?
    Like I said, not trying to berate anyone. I was spanked as a child, and after a while, it got to be a joke, because I knew when my parent's got to that point, they had pretty much played their last hand, and I had won. Sort of defeated the meaning of a punishment, and taught me to be sneakier next time.[;)]
