Nevada and Utah

I was reacently at the gun show in Costa Mesa and saw one specific thing that caught my eye. There are a few companies that are offering a way to recive a CCW for either Nevada or Utah. Both of the companies advertise that the permits are valid in 9 or 13 states (all shall issue). Can anyone fill me in on these? I am just wondering if it is worth it or why the Utah one is valid for 13 states but not Nevada, and why is Nevada's good for most of the Utah ones. Thanks in advance for any assistance regarding this,Vince

I was told that Utahs permit was honored in about 23 states. This is because of the stricter laws to get them than other states. You can find classes for $40 to $65 Some include fingerprints and passport photos some dont, the cost of the permit is $59 I believe and it is nonrefundable if rejected, and $5 to renew every 5 years.

A lot of other states will honor a Florida License with restrictions. In PA. there are only two places you can't take a weapon 1.a Courthouse 2.School Property. http://licgweb.dos.state.fl.us/news/concealed_carry.html I can carry in Utah but not Nevada

In Las Vegas there is a place called The Gun Shop. You pay $70 for a 10 hour class and then another $30 at the sheriff's office for a permit. For about $100 and 10 hours out of your day you get an unrestricted CCW valid in Nevada and Michigan, among others (it takes about 120 days to get in the mail). The only down side, other than the $$ and time is that you have to bring the weapon you intend on carrying concealed. Not bad if you have some extra time on a Vegas vacation.Based on the INCREDIBLY slow pace that counties in Michigan are issuing CCW's I might get one in Nevada (on my vacation next week) just incase I don't get my renewal in Michigan before my old CCW expires!

In PA. all you need is $14.00 and 2 passport photos. 14 days later you get a letter saying "We have found no reason not to issue you a license to carry." Pick up your license at the County Court House. In FL. you have to take a 2 hr. class, prove you can rapid fire and hit your target, get fingerprinted, pay $117.00, provide 2 passport photos and wait and wait and wait.

In SD all you have to do is pay them the $10.00 and fill out the paper. If you are not a felon or been arrested for domestic assault they HAVE to issue.

Here is some additional information regarding Utah. "Straight from the Horse's mouth" as I just came from their Offices at the Bureau of Criminal Identification. If you get a Concealed Carry Permit, you can then apply to be an Instructor, ($5 Fee). Biggest problem is convincing them you are "Certified as an Instructor." Can be Military, LEO Instructor, NRA, but need paper proof. You can get an Instructor Permit in any State that you live in so long as your Concealed Weapons Permit reflects the same address in that State. You must have a Utah Concealed Weapons Permit to obtain an Instructor's License. You can then instruct and certify folks in your state for a Utah Permit. Applications may be mailed and licenses are always mailed. I personally know of several "Out of State" Utah instructors. They don't have a listing of the other States that honor Utah's Concealed Weapons Permit, (although I suspect they know and aren't saying), but the State of Utah will honor for 60 days ANY valid Concealed Weapons Permit issued by any other State or County. That means no matter where you are licensed, you can carry in the State of Utah with your valid permit. You must, however, obey their laws, rules and regulations regarding "Secure areas and Restricted Persons." Hope this helps a little.....

Yes, that is correct. You would have to provide the State of Utah a Course Outline which meets their requirements and when they approved your course as complying with the law, you would be good to go. Oh yes, the form for the Instructor License is the same as for the Original Permit, but you check the little box beside "Instructor" ($5.00).They approve your course and you must maintain a list of those trained and their addresses and date of training for possible audit by the Public Safety Department of the State of Utah. A bit of a hassle, but when done, you could offer Courses to the Good Citizens of Arkansas for a Utah Concealed Weapons Permit.

Regarding Nevada CCW laws:There are two counties in the state that prohibits concealed carry and also all federal buildings and schools are prohibited. In northern NV, classes start @ $100, and that includes range time, ammunition, schooling and if you dont have your own weapon, students are more than welcome to use any available equipment on inventory. Check out www.armedandsafe.com and try to get a hold of the owners for any inquiries. -smooth
