Raining Humvees in Germany

I don't know who screwed up, Army or Air Force, but it was raining humvees in Germany when several did NOT come down slowly by parachute.[:D] They took the express route to the ground. The Army observers videoing the event actually did seem to be pretty amused. [:D][:D] There's not much left when a humvee augers in at terminal velocity. [;)]

Don't know if I was more PO'd that a few $100k in tax dollars went down the toilet or that the soldiers thought it was funny.

I just read about it tonight on military.com. Didn't see it on the other news sites. Still, an interesting report. I did see an M551 Sheridan that took the big nose dive once. It would have taken a whole roll of duct tape and a case of Rustoleum to fix that baby. [:D]

Don't they have a better way to deliver Humvees than by parachutes? That method seems to be asking for trouble.

Ya know if they charged the person that chained it down to the carrier for the cost of the Humvee there would be less of that happening.

They've been dropping big stuff from airplanes even almost at ground level, probably since WW2.
There's no excuse for this crap.
Someone needs to be court martialed at the decision making level' not the indians who are just following orders.

Parachute Riggers did their jobs. Drogue chute deploys fine and then the three mains deploy and quickly fill.

I would say the Logistics guys who palletized them and the Loadmasters who safety check them before loading and prior to green light screwed the pooch. I find it hard to imagine they did not see some movement of the chains and binders while they were enroute to the drop zone.

Well we may have bought the rigging from China.
