TV Stations Dump Bill MaherExclusive: At least three TV stations have dumped ultra-snide "Politically Incorrect" host Bill Maher because of his controversial remarks.Starting tonight, the ABC stations in Des Moines and Sioux City, Iowa, and Lincoln, Neb., have dropped "Politically Incorrect" from their schedules until further notice, Ray Cole, president and CEO of Citadel Communications, which owns the three stations, told NewsMax.com this afternoon."We wanted to give the show an ample opportunity to explain, and in my view apologize," Cole told NewsMax. But he was disappointed in ABC's inaction and Maher's spinning and feeble attempts at apology, which initially included a statement that he's "never been good at grieving" on TV.Sears, which along with Federal Express yanked ads from "Politically Incorrect," told Reuters news agency: "Bill and his guests have every right to voice their freedom of speech, and we applaud that. However, we have the right to air our broadcast advertising where we feel it's appropriate to reach out to our customers."In a statement issued through a P.R. flack Wednesday, Maher said his views "should have been expressed differently.""In no way was I intending to say, nor have I ever thought, that the men and women who defend our nation in uniform are anything but courageous and valiant, and I offer my apologies to anyone who took it wrong," the statement said."Too little, too late," said Cole, who was surprised that NewsMax was already reporting his decision, which had been made just this afternoon. One of the viewers who flooded Cole's stations with complaints about Maher was NewsMax reader Neal J. Fisher, a Drake University student who told us "at least 50 people on campus" were involved in the dump-Maher movement. "There's been a much larger response from the community," he found out after contacting the station.Cole said he didn't know of any other ABC stations pre-empting Maher yet. But there's hope. Take a stand by contacting your local ABC station and urging it to cancel "Politically Incorrect." Also, to e-mail ABC: abc.audience.relations@abc.com or netaudr@abc.com.And we salute Ray Cole and his company and Neal J. Fisher and his fellow activists for taking their stand.

He meant exactly what he said. He is only apologizing now because he thought he could say what he wanted and now his little livelyhood is at risk. What a jerk.

I just got off the phone with the program director of the local ABC affiliate. I told her that Maher was clearly out of line with his comments and the citizens of the viewing area deserved better! She told me that the station general manager had been in contact with ABC on the matter and was considering dropping the show. I am not holding my breath, but I did voice my opinion.

I have to say I sure enjoyed watching him squirm and grow worry lines last night on O'Reily. It is amazing how they act when they have to explain what they spew out of their mouths.

The only time I watched him was when Ted Nugent was on making Bill Maher look like an ignorant *.

I wrote my little pirce of fan mail to ABC regarding the show. If enough of us call in and email, we can get this puke off the air in enough stations to make him drop his show altogether. If each one of us does not take the time to do tthese things, we let the scum win and we have nobody to blame but ourselves.

Why does it take so long for folks to see through people like Maher. He should have never had a show to begin with. Howard Stern, you're next.

I sent my e-mail (for what it's worth). Let's face it, the average American has an 8-year-old mentality, which is why this pinhead is so popular, along with Howard Stern, Jerry Springer, and Bill Clinton.
I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.--Voltare

Guess who was supposed to be on the show the night BM opened his 'hole'?The empty chair was for Barbara Olsen. BM wouldn't have dared open his 'hole', and sphewed forth his true thoughts like he did, if she were there. If he would of,...she'd be the first guest so far, that would of rocketed out of their chair, literally "gotten in his face", and then walked off the set! Sure would have liked to see that.If he were on that plane, they would have found him hiding, locked in the bathroom with 'wet shoes'.God Bless Barbara Olsen's family, and The United States Of America.
    Happy Bullet Holes!

burn1bob,He's got the right to say it, and we have the right not to have to listen to the treasonist sob. I don't want to throw him in jail, I just don't want to furnish him a media to spread his anti-everything mouth. It's a free country. Let him spend his own money to run his mouth. You won't see that happen. I'm glad his sponcers decided not to support him. That's one of their rights.

Anyone that laughs at everything he says must think he's a joke. Reminds me of one dumb New York senator who glances from side to side after each remark, to see if anyone has figured out just how dumb he really is yet.

i was gonna let this thread die a peaceful death until someone else brought it up again. now, maher was wrong and i am only defending the 1st ammendment. anybody that regularly watches the show thats been on for eight years now should know of maher's unrelenting support of our military. those that dont watch shouldnt make an uninformed opinion, although they have the right to. those that watch and dont like what they see or hear always have the freedom of the on/off switch. that alone puts many a tv show in the drink every season. seems to me a bunch of folks 'heard of' what he said and didnt like it and had the typical knee-jerk reaction. sort of reminds me of how a bunch of extreme fundamentalist terrorists 'heard of' two American teenage girls talking about Christianity and didnt like it and had the typical knee-jerk reaction. pretty simple line of progression, no? now i personally think we ought to bomb the dog-* out of every regime that carries out or supports terrorism against this nation to the point that anybody thats left will beleive its the stone age. we just should not lose any of our hard earned freedoms or rights because of it. if we do, the enemy has victory. regardless of what every politician says, if you cant see that things are already slowly but surely heading in that direction, you dont have your eyes open. I follow several different forums. The over-riding mistake several people seem to make is that they think the choices that several sponsors as well as tv stations made in pulling Maher equates to censorship. No one is taking away your first amendment rights to free speech. You have a right to free speech. No one has a right to a tv show. The sponsors are not exhibiting censorship. They are not taking away your first amendment rights. They are simply making an idiot pay for idiotic comments.

michaell, i understand your point. so, what does it equate to then? the network is keeping him on in spite of a lack of sponsors and some stations dropping his show. certainly a novel approach of a major network in the name of 'free speech'. i hope you understand the larger issue. i get it that its not "my" rights..yet! are you thinking, talking, or acting any differently than before 911? how do you think that EVERY authority from the local police officer all the way up is thinking? wheres the bill of rights on their agenda? and how about the general populace? certainly there are no threats, shootings, beatings or torchings going on just because someone looked or said or did something vaguely 'different'. its permeating the institutions of our society like corporations, workplaces, schools, job interviews, ball games, you name it. of course its not my or your rights right now, but just how long do you think it will be before you or i show up on somebodys watch list or get profiled just because somebody did not like how we looked or something we said. as a matter of fact we are probably already on someones list just because we freely chose to utilize this "pro-gun" forum. This is very simple. If I own a tv station, or a radio station, or a web site, etc and some * comes and spouts idiotic views, such as Maher does, then I can him. It isn't censorship. It isn't threatening your first amendment rights. He is simply driving off a lot of viewers and sponsors. Same as if I came into work and started saying stuff like that. I wouldn't have a job for very long and my "right" to free speech wouldn't help me at all.
