Another shotgun question

I know the Benelli M1 w/pistol grip can take 3inch shells but how many? And is there 3inch buckshot and slug shells out there? and does that extra powder increase its effective range? And if it does what is effective range?

Okay now, if I buy a Benelli M1 with a pistol grip would I be able to change back to a standard stock? And if I can where can I buy the standard stock online?

Thanks for all the info. Im learning alot.

The state of Iowa does not allow the use of modern rifles for deer hunting. My Mossberg 835 w/rifled slug barrel isn't a bad gun. It does fairly well at typical slug gun ranges. However, I have been contemplating my next gun purchase for months now. I am still trying to decide between a Kimber Eclipse or a new slug gun for the deer season. In your opinion, who makes the best shotgun for my purposes? I like Ithaca shotguns and have considered their Deerslayer II.

I cant answer all your questions but I can a couple. There are 3" Buckshot and Slugs readily available. My shotgun only has the 3" chamber and I keep 000 Buck in mine. The common effective range of Buckshot is 25 yards but can be pushed slightly further with more Barrel length and different chokes. For short barreled open bore 25 yards is the max to hold spread. The effective range of a slug is out past 100+ yards easy.Federal makes a very good slug which is a 1ounce Hydra-Shock slug.A slug up close(within 30 yards)is DEVESTATING.

    Could I us a Hydra-Shock slug or any 3inch slug in a Benelli M1 super 90?

As long as the barrel is a Rifled slug barrel and you have a 3" chamber you would not have any problems.A rifled barrel will effect Buckshot range and pattern though. It may throw off your spread. If its for home defense I advise against the slug if a miss it will have massive penetration.Could pass through 2 walls and still easily kill someone. If you dont have kids and dont live in a apartment go for it though. If you do have both keep brdshot or buckshot up front and keep a couple of slugs further down in the tube.Like 2 bucks then 2 slugs. The federal is a low re-coil round as well but the Hydra-Shock slug would be unforgiving and would be a 99.99% kill. You can still shoot slugs from a non slug barrel but accuracy will be a good bit off.

Do you know if Benelli makes a rifled barrel for their M1 super 90?

I just read up alittle. The M1 Super 90 with 18" brl. holds 7 rounds, does not come in a rifled barrel but does shoot slugs with the improved cylinder bore choke with good accuracy 2" groups at 50 yrds. One of the test loads happened to be the Fderal slug and Wichester slug.I will go back and get the web address for you it is a very good review nd extremely informative.Something I didnt know is the Benelli is made by HK.

Here is the web address it will surely answer any question you could have on this gun. http://www.remtek.com/arms/hk/civ/benelli/m1s90.htm.If it doesnt pick up the long one try www.remtek.com or the HK web site and look for M1S90.

Dangit! I was a few weeks to late, I canceled my email account because I was never using it. I was looking at the Benelli M3, and for about $200 more is the pump option really worth it? Ive only seen one M3 standard stock, but it was used...I like my guns new for some reason. Well anyway Ive mostly seen pistol grip stocks and want a standard stock so I can have a 7 round mag. tube. So can I buy a M3 and replace the pistol grip stock with a standard one and still add on the mag. extension? Iw would be nice to have a standard stock and pistol grip stock for the same gun.

THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO, ITS REALLY HELPING.

I would just stick with the pistol grip you will find it more comfortable and easy to control the gun especially shooting slugs.I feel they aid in accuracy as well.I think it would be worth the pump option. If it jams up give it rack and your back in business.

3 in shells are every where, shell cap is 7 Rds,but you can buy barrel extensions.Thats one more reason I like thee Mossberg it has a 8+1 capacity. We load them with 23/4 in shells.First shell 00 buck then a slug on and on.Our side saddles are loaded with 3in Magnum shells.

    Best!!

Okay let me see if im understanding everything correctly. An M1 or M3 with pistol grip can hold 5 in the tube, and 1 in the chamber, right? And if I get a M1 or M3 with pistol grip I can legally change it to a standard stock and increase the mag. capacity to 7 + 1, right? Then if I wanted to go back to the pistol grip, I wuld take off the standard stock, change the mag. tube back to 5 + 1 and everything would be fine, right? And it is legal to hunt with a pistol grip shotgun(Benelli M1, M3) with a plug limiting the capacity to 2 + 1, right?

Thanks for the fast response! Am I understanding you right? I was told if I buy a Benelli M1 or M3 with pistol grip the legal max capacity is 5 + 1, and with standard stock the max was 7 + 1. So are you saying I can have 7 + 1 on a Benelli M1 or M3 with pistol grip? To many damn stupid gun laws, they make my head hurt.

Did you go to benelli's website and request a copy of their catalog? I have it, and it is very self explanitory, and free. All of your questions should be answered with it.
