Gernade

My friend that owns a military surplus store told me that sometimes when they get a shipment of dummy gernades that sometimes the people at the factory forget to take the fuse out. So he fills it back up with whatever you fill it up with, gunpowder I guess, and him and a buddy police officer go out to his house way out in the country, pull the pin, and throw them in a 30 foot hole where they explode. BANG!! And he said that next time he finds one if I would like to go with him to explode it, and that I could even pull the pin and throw it. Pretty cool huh!

Gene, it will be very exciting if you get a short fuze and it goes BANG as soon as the spoon flies off!! Tom

I saw some Army guys playing with grenades in the Dominican Republic in 1963. One messed up, grenade go boom. More candidates for the Darwin award.
So many guns to buy. So little money.

Short fuse can make the "run back" much shorter than you intended it to be

Gene B.--Assuming this is legal, be VERY careful that there is absolutely no play in the spoon before you let it go. If you hold it in your hand and you allow the spoon to move back and forth (even slightly) the friction can cause the fuse to detonate prematurely. BE CAREFUL! However, it sounds that your friend is getting fuses from another source because even the military's dummy grenades don't have the fuses in them when they are shipped. They are packed in a separate container and inserted when they get issued for training. The dummy grenades are used over and over again with different fuses so the story your buddy is giving you doesn't quite jive. Also, the pins are an accountable item in the military. All pins are collected up and counted after training to ensure that all fuses were either blown or turned in unused. When training is complete, the pins from the used fuses and the fuses that go unused must be turned in for 100% accountability to the ammunition supply point. If your buddy is getting ahold of fuses, I have no idea how he could possibly be doing it. Like I said, make sure this is all on the up-and-up.[This message has been edited by idsman75 (edited 10-24-2001).]

Wiggling the spoon wont set the fuze off because the spoon has to fly off to allow the striker to hit the primer and ignite the fuze that ignites the blasting cap which detonates the main charge.Grenades have a considerable blast with fragments that rain down on a large area, I wouldn't want to play with any more unless I've got good cover and earplugs.

i seem to remember the fuses being some sort of acid that ate its way down to the detonator.maybe the memory DOES go first.

Do yourself a favor and avoid people who want to show you their collection of illegalmachine guns, rocket launchers and such.Sooner or later they will offer to sell you something fun but still illegal. If you buy it, you'll be visiting the iron bar hotel.

Gene, in all fairness to your family, be sure your life insurance is up to date. And that you don't squander any money on a fancy lawyer if you should be caught. In a word: DON'T.

A DUMMY GERNADE IS A REAL GERNADE BUT THE A HOLE IS DRILLED IN THE BOTTOM AND THE CAP CAN SCREW OFF RIGHT? I HAVE ONE IN MY HAND RIGHT NOW AND ILL EXPLAIN WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. OK WHEN I PULLED THE PIN AND TOOK OFF THE SPOON I CAN SEE WHAT LOOKS LIKE THE END OF A BULLET, THIS ONE HAS BEEN FIRED I GUESS SINCE THERES A DENT IN THE PRIMER OR BLAST CAP, WHATEVER YOU CALL IT. UNDER THAT THERE ARE THE LETTERS M E, IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT THAT MEANS. IT HAS A SMELL OF OIL AND SULFUR. AT THE END OF THE CAP THERE IS A HALF INCH CYLINDER THING THAT HAS WHAT LOOKS LIKE GUN POWDER BURNS ON IT. THE SPOON IS BLUE AND THERES A BLACK MARK DRAWN ACROSS THE TOP OF THE CAP IF THAT MEANS ANYTHING, AND THATS ALL.[This message has been edited by Gene B. (edited 10-25-2001).]
