Weapons on Military Bases

My father-in-law was a career Air Force officer and I know from my visits to the various bases where he was assigned that weapons possession in base housing was subject to some rather strict regulation. If any of you active duty members of this board reside in base housing, can you tell me if that has changed and if so, for better or worse. Just curious as the irony of it always puzzled me.

Yeah, they make us get a registration card at the front gate but, they don't enter them in any computer. They just made my card and said to come see them if it changes. If I were below an E-6 I would have to have permission fom my CO, our CO is against that and just signs "no questions asked". The Marshall says it's to protect the MP's but since they didn't enter it into any computer, how do they know?

Oh its different from place to place, but here at Ft. Wood its not bad. You register the weapon on post at the MP shack and they keep track of you on computer too. My CO had to sign off originally, but now they just add to my list of weapons, they kind of got use to it when it went over 25 weapons.
