price shock on rem 700

i just got back from my local gun shop and am suffering from price shock. i've done my homework, i know what i want. its a rem. 700 bdl, stainless w/ syn. stock, 24" barrel. in a 280. they didn't have 1 in stock, but they could order it for only $689i asked if this is the best they could do? they came back with $669. i told them this was still more than i wanted to pay, they asked what i would pay? i told them i was thinking of something in the 640 to 650 range. they said no way. so i left. are they asking too much? or an i being to cheap?

    No, that's about right. I have three of them in stock, Rem #6255 with the detachable magazine. $639.95 including shipping.

    What is it with Rem? My 7mm I bought new about 10 years ago as a 700bdl with classic stock chambered in 7mm remington mag for $420 at walmart, the gun has since then been completely rebuilt. But the same gun now costs how much????????

    7mm - I don't have a clue. I have a Remington 30-06 w/synthetic stock and it sure didn't cost me near that much.

    All Remingtons do not cost the same, just like all Fords do not cost the same. And, if you bought a F150 10yrs ago, would you really expect the price to be the same today?A regular old blue-steel, walnut stock 700BDL runs a bit over $500 new. T, yours is a 700ADL Synthetic which you can find on sale for under $400.

    AntiqueDr - went to the Remington site - thought all the rifles there were a trifle high.I know what I can buy mine on sale for - but there's no way I'd of paid them that much for it - hell I thought paying $250 was a bit out of line.

    I have to confess, I love Ruger and probably will never buy a new gun other than Ruger, used I can go with other brands, but new, nothing but Ruger, why pay what the other guys want when you can get it and more in a Ruger?
