Porting a 454

I'm in love with my Ruger 454 Casull, but I've decided to get it ported for better follow up shots and reduce recoil for friends of mine who believe it to be too much. I've MagnaPorted my .338 and like their work, but before I do this gun, has anyone done any porting to their 454, and if so, how were the results, and what type of porting did you use? Thanks Rob.

Its not so much the'kick', as it is the muzzle flip when you shoot it one handed. Its finding your groove I guess, flip, kick, how you hold it makes a lot of diff. I'd like to be able to keep the sights more near to the target after shooting, ya know.

Hey pops, anyone worth their salt should be able to take all 3 of their deer at the same time, if they are a real hunter. I figure the 2nd and 3rd shots wouldnt be required with this gun, but I'm haveing a hard time getting the deer to cover and align lately. That 1st squad leader just cant seem to stay in step either.

Hey Robs, magna port did the FA I had...helped some. As you prob know, the porting will increase the noise a...BUNCH...as if it were not loud enough as it is. I found that the porting helped very little with the flip....hence after having the chance to touch off one of GODS lightning bolts in a RAGING BULL....I sold my FA and now own the RB,.....with plenty of jingle left in my pocket. For me, my RB has not failed me nor does it rattle after many, many rounds...it just rocks! VERY accurately I may add...did not have to consider aftermarket grips as you know the BULL comes with some really nice shok absorbing grips. I found the BULL had a tad less muzzle flip than the FA...and with those sweet little .454s that is good! As I said in the thread you posted when your new baby was about to arrive...that extra under barrel weight on the BULL does help with a quicker 2nd round target aquisition,(a touch less flip) thobeit just a little,....still helps. As my handle implies(RUGERNUT3) aka: RICHARD, (dont tell anyone!) I LOVE RUGER! From my first BLACKHAWK (.357) in the late 60's.it was love at first shot with the RUGER, and the love affair has not changed...oh of course, we, as is the case with most relationships have had our petty ups and downs...but what relationship has not I ask? We always end up shooting and making up. Thats the best part!...you know..makeup shooting.(its the best..ooh..makes me want to go get her and ...er, uh better keep it clean children could be reading this. Out of the box my BULL (with out adjusting the rear sight) was EXPLODING gallon (got milk?) jugs filled with water 8-10 feet in the air at 40 feet. ...cant complain. But alas, (rugernut with head bowed..touch of sniffles..FROM ALLERGIES mind you all) I am considering telling my sweet, never let me down, always stood by me through the good and bad times...that her and I may soon be parting ways, sniff sniff, damn allergies. You see...there is someone else, acctualy two others...that are trying hard to creep into my life and end the relationship!NOW, I have said it, feel better already!I JUST HATE THE UNFAITHFUL..THAT CANT KEEP THEIR GUN IN THEIR HOLSTER! I'M NOT THAT TYPE OF PERSON! By chance, someone here posted a thread and by the time I was through posting an answer...I felt a twinge of love come over me that made me shiver (first sign of love..or a da*& cold). My reply to the post convinced me (dont take much when it involves getting another firearm),,I convince REALLY easy....to build another Mauser in .8mm. RUGERNUT whispering so as BULL doesent hear this. OH! the guiltis so hard to bear (I'll live through it). My other mistress (as I am not decided as of yet) could be one of the SIG CLASSICS, OR SIG PRO-2340 IN .40. I maybe a little kinky w/the 2340 because SIG offers a drop in barrel for this model in .357 sig,you know..it can go both ways. Boy, I need a cup of coffee..this is wearing me out. As of know..I am leaning toward building the Mauser..AND choosing a Sig I like..Oh the pain of it all! Cold hearted me, as i have written this..I have decided to go with both the Mauser build and one of the SIGS. The shame of it all..head bowed. So, I guess I will do what is best for BULL, I will let her down easy (sniff-sniff) and do my best to find someone who will treat her with the respect she deserves..someone who will take care of her and give her the attention she deserves, a good home as she is well deserving of such things. I promise I will let her down gently guys...I just need the extra money to swing doing both...oh God how I hate goodbys.......PS: Man, where did all this come from, was just going to reply to this post, hey it's3:00AM plead the 5th. (works for the ENRON Act.....RUGERNUT now going for a cup of coffe to sip and snivel over...HAVE A GREAT DAY GUYS!!

RUGERNUT, Was your FA a 7.5" bbl.? I ask cause I wonder if the magnaporting would do my 9.5" bbl. more good or not, seems as if it should. As to the personal problems you and RB are having, dont sweat it, she'll understand that you cant provide her with the love that she so much deserves, and that its better for both of you this way.

Hey Robsguns, Could you just put a weight on the barrel? you know, something like a flashlite (D cell) or maybe a 10 lb vice?
    Have Gun, will travel

I suppose my 6 cell Mag lite would be pretty intimidating velcroed to the end of the barrel, huh? Think I better start working out with the shoulders even more than I have been. I wonder how long the light bulb will hold up?

Ok, ok, seriously though, does anyone else have any experience with porting one of these besides RUGERNUT? I'd appreciate any additional info, thanks. Oh yeah, feel free to keep the jokes coming, AT MY EXPENSE, I like a little ribbing.
