Carry Concealed permit reciprocity

As a newcomer to this site,I first want to say thanks to you all for providing information, feedback, and always a good laugh when it's been a rough night at work. You all are definately a good example of the first amendment at work, and IMHO,keeping the second alive.Maybe when my fingers can find these darn keys better,I can contribute more.....My question is:What will happen if I am stopped and searched(possibly, due to recent events) on an upcoming out of state trip in a state which does not honor my Alabama permit? Or am I just being paranoid?
Freedom is not free, what have YOU done to support it?

I assume you mean to carry. In that case, BY ALL THAT IS HOLY, let the cop know you are carrying. Nothing makes them crankier than finding out you have a loaded gun on your person, and you didn't tell them about it. Make no fast moves (more than one innocent man has been shot in such cases), and let them take it. Personally, I would rather argue with a judge than an embalmer. Yes, technically, the constitution guarentees reciprocity (you don't need a drivers' license for each state), but the fact of the matter is, this, like so much of our constitution, is not being enforced. You might want to consider not carrying.
I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.--Voltare

Yes .250,I mean carry as I do not like to travel alone without it.It is sad that someone travelling alone is a target these days.

I forgot,if my handgun is confiscated what are the chances of getting it back ? As of now, only two states that border Alabama honor my permit,Florida and Mississippi.

Rodger - you could be looking at some hefty fines & serious jail time as well. I saw a study some time in the past that showed that a conviction for illegal carry, etc., in one of the bastions of liberal 'freedom' typically had a higher conviction rate & more jail time than crimes against persons. Think it was MA?

Well, like .250 suggested, maybe leaving it home is not a bad idea.I wonder though,if it is locked in a case in the trunk when not in a reciprocity state, what then.I will be going to KY but going through TN to get there.Honored in KY but not TN.What a pain in the butt just to protect ones self.I will be going to Ft.Knox to see my son graduate basic training and know that I cannot even have it in the vehicle on post because I work at Ft.Rucker AL and a federal installation is a whole different ballgame. Thanks for the info.

At least you know about military installations. If it's not registered on the installation and you are not travelling to or from an authorized hunting area or range, kiss it goodbye along with your priviledge of entering that installation. While working as an MP I had a gentleman who just entered the installation ask me about the 1911 race guns he had in his pickup cab. I took a look at the guns and told him informed him of the regulation. I told him that if he chose to go any further it would be at his own risk and mine due to the fact that I had knowledge of the firearms in his pickup. I wasn't about to confiscate or apprehend so he thanked me and left.

I bought a small cashiers box, one of those small gray locking boxes, that will lock when closed. I put foam rubber, that I cut out fit my pistol, inside. When traveling interstate it rides, open, on the seat next to me. When and if I get stopped by the police I close the top and my gun is in a locked container. If the officer asks if I have a gun I tell him/her yes and where it is. to date I have been stopped 4 times and was asked only once if I had a gun, in VA, and the officer had no problem with it being where it was.
The more people I meet, the more I like my dogs.
