Looking to purchase for CC (no holster)and have narrowed it down to Sig's P232, Springfield's new 9mm (forget #) and Kahr's P40. Ideally, I'd love German/French made ppk in 380, but in CA. very difficult to find. Any thoughts on the above or any other suggestions. Many thanks

You can not go wrong with the Kahr 40 they now have a Polomer frame 40 out. My 2 cents

Look at a Kel-Tec P11, 9mm. You can get a belt clip so don't need a holster. The thing weighs just under 22oz fully loaded. You can check them out at www.ktog.org. Mine is for winter carry.
So many guns to buy. So little money.

cepermd, what is the source of your information on the ownership of Kahr? If it is true (I am not doubting your word, I just did not know anything about it), it will ruin my day for future Kahr products. If small and light are important qualifications for concealed carry for you, as they are for me, the choices you mention are not what I would choose. In a .380, the Colt Pony Pocketlite is my top choice. It only weighs 12.5 ounces unloaded, and is MUCH smaller than a P232, which is as big as most compact 9x19 pistols. The P232, like a PPK, is a blowback, and therefore kicks a lot more than the Pony. A PPK is a great classic design, but does not appeal to me for concealed carry. It is heavier than a Kel-Tec P11, is less powerful and holds fewer rounds. I seem to have been supporting my choices for concealed carry on these boards a lot lately. If interested, do a search and you will see a lot of discussion on choices for concealed carry. In 9x19, my choice is the Kel-Tec P11. It is smaller, lighter and holds more rounds than any other 9x19 available. The fact that it costs little is a bonus, but is not be a factor in my selection. The P11 is inexpensive, not cheap. For a 9x19, I choose it over any other pistol of any cost.In a .40S&W, you could try a Kel-Tec P40, but they are a handfull to shoot. I think in pistols that small, 9x19 is about the upper limit for easily controlled recoil. While it holds fewer rounds, the Kahr P40 is bigger than the Kel-Tec P40 and is more controllable.I have been evaluating carry guns all my life, and the ones I mentioned are the ones I have selected as the ones that best fit my current needs. Others may disagree with me, but these are my choices.[This message has been edited by JudgeColt (edited 10-17-2001).]

Judge Colt, I believe CPERMD might be correct about the ownership of Kahr. However, in my opinion, great carry pistol, especially the P40. I must get my hands on the Colt Pony. Hope I can find one in CA. I finally found the i.d numbers on theSmith & Wesson and its the 3913TSW in 9mm. It too, seems like a great carry as discussed. Any thoughts on it? thanks to all responses

Try looking at a Beretta 84 or Colt Govt Pocketlite. Both are .380. I have carried both and they are excellent. The pocketlite is easier to carry and after a while you forget you even have it. The Beretta because it is small and carries alot of rounds.

For what it's worth, the Nov/Dec issue of American Handgunner has a large article about Kahr and the parent company which was founded by Rev.Moon.He is said to no longer be involved with it.His son Justin Moon is the CEO and chief designer. As far as I am concerned it's an American company, employing American workers, and paying American taxes. As soon as I can afford one,the P9 is going to be added to my small collection.I will only buy American products if at all possible and if another American gun manufacturer can match their product as to accuracy, reliability, and cost,I would buy one of them too.I will climb down off my American podium now.
