In this part of Indiana they are like a plague. Millions and millions. Tried to mow the yard today and had to stop. It was like a storm of them. Anyone else around the country having a problem with them? Rosie

Yep, Rosie......they are here too! They look almost like a ladybug. They bite, and if you happen to smack one, it stinks! I get a container of hot water and scoop them into it when they are in the house, outside I just smack them out of the way! They have a liking to the side of the house and somedays cover just about the entire side, all 3 stories have orange spots!

Despite having 'Windows' on my computer, I'm not an expert on bugs . . . but it's my understanding that there's an insect that looks almost identical to the lady bug which is of no social value. And I rather imagine that is what is causing the plague. I have them way up here in NH - not as badly infested as you folks in warmer climes, but more than I've ever seen. FWIW, they seemed to disappear as soon as we started having frosts.218: Ruv, ruv me do?! LMAO!

Why are there no "Men" Ladybugs? Isn't this contrary to political correctness? Really, if the guys had a exclusive corner on the bug world, you can bet the "ACLU" and "N.O.W" would be dragging us through court.

Yeah, we're up to our mayflys in ladybugs here. Some of them want to eat on a person.TOLEDO -- Have you been bugged by lady bugs lately? Naturalists at Lucas County Metroparks say there's an unusually large population of them for this time of year. The afternoon sun especially brings them out.Naturalist Linda Munger says the surge of lady bugs has to do with the rainy, cool summer we had. "That means that a lot of insects thrived. Lady bugs eat insects, they eat those things that you really don't want in your garden, so apparently there was a lot of food for them." There's also a new breed of lady bug in our area this year. The multi-colored Asian Lady Beetle comes from the south, but they're moving north. If you've had a problem with lady bugs, here are a few tips. Be sure to seal all cracks around doors and windows. Fix screens and repair doors so they can't get in the house. To get lady bugs out of your home, sweep them up, either with a broom or vacuum, and then take them outside. Don't kill them, because they're important for keeping destructive insects away.Along the same lines, don't use insecticides to get rid of them. If you can't get rid of them yourself, they should leave on their own in a couple days. Since there is that new lady bug in the area, there will probably be a larger than usual population for the next few years.Posted 4:05pm Wednesday, October 18, 2000

Here is your chance to excercise your entrepreneurial skills. In KAlifornia, they sell these little guys (just like the pic) for $4.50 a 1/4 lb. (approx 100-200 critters), they come bagged in a nice screened bag, with little display board stapled to it. They make excellent garden pest iradicators (hope the spelled right).Since the winds blow eastward from here, we set them loose and they fly back home your way. I understand they hibernate quite well in cold weather.Home Depot stores carry them in early spring, summer.[This message has been edited by turbo (edited 10-21-2001).]

There seems to be some confusion between all american lady birds, and these new asian beetles. The asians are the bad ones....they bite, and when they run out of the food source that they were imported to control...they eat a wide variety of other things. I've seen large holes eaten into apples, squash, tomatoes, and gathered on other produce as well....I figure that that is why they bite people...to see if you are ripe yet!! Last year was the first time I saw them in force, and now they are getting stronger...I think that the best use for them would be to send the lot of them to plague bin laden...biblical, huh?
