Just got home from re-building my motor in the old suburban, "runs great". Found in the mail a "notice of violation" in Chicago for parking during rush hour! Hell I've never been to Chicago! The date of violation was back on 2/15/01. I checked my plates and it matches but the vehical description says it is a HYUN. My plates where new in june of 2001, along with the truck, go figure!

That's easy enough for the cops to check if you make a report on it. Maybe someone stole your expired plates? Borrowed them and put them back? Say, do you have teenagers? ;*D

280- you can see what you're missing out on here in chicago. the politicians and their "fees" can be temporarily managed w/ frequent applications of money- but not the smells. for a laugh, call up the number listed on the notice and try and work it out w/ them. unload any nearby guns, though...the bureaucracy will blow your mind. be thankful that you don't need a "city sticker", a f.o.i.d. card, a cta pass, a "bond" card for traffic violations, or pay soda pop tax, or that you have to worry about crappy lawn furniture being stolen from your yard(not to mention, being mugged, robbed, or raped) by anyone including police(some of whom would be lucky to get a janitor uniform in any other city). be thankful you can drive a pickup truck on streets w/out a arbitrary "blvd." designation, that your mailman decides to work most days, that you don't have to look at frozen dog poop every 6 feet of sidewalk for 4 mo.s or that you can have a "for sale" sign on your car. think of it as a tariff imposed to make life better, loosen your belt a notch, and throw some trash on the street to get even. at least thats what they seem to do around here...(maybe i should move soon lol)

Jeezze Rat I guess I never had it so good. And hear I thought it was just me they where picking on, sorry man! sniff, sniff, I tried the number they supplied and it wouldn't work either, you where right! I've drafted a letter with the facts and signitures of witnesses from freinds "yes, I have a few" and family "the ones that still talk to me". I can't figure out how they can charge me with a crime if the plate wasn't even "in circulation" yet. It has to be either the officer screwed up or the plate was modified in some way. Besides, I don't even own a HYUN, and my plate is registered to a suburban, oh well.

The number doesn't work? The whole thing is probably just a fraud. Someone obtaining your tag number from some data base sending you the notice and expecting you to just pay it.Bring it to the attention of your local Postmaster before spending time preparing a defense.

Yea thankx Competentone; I think the charge is legit as far as the letter goes, I think the letter was just computer generated and the facts whern't checked out. Just on the safe side I drafted a letter of my own to send out with six signitures stateing my case and with proof of registration dates. If it is a fraud this should quiet them down, if for real this should clear me! I thought that you had to be proven guilty not had to prove my inocense. Oh well, life is to short to worry about the little *...and it is all little *. oops the devil made me write this!

hunter, you are a far more patient person than I. I would send a letter, but I would also tell them, in just so many words, to pound sand where the sun don't shine. What are they going to do, start extradition proceedings?! I have parking tickets from all over the US, some of them actually legit, going back 30+ years. If the issuing body isn't at least contiguous to my home state, I simply toss them.

Just another probable cause to bust down your door and hold your family at gunpoint, confiscate your weapons over a clerical error. Oh yeah that never happens - I forgot we are in the USA.
