...yet another post regarding storage / BoreStores

Is it bad to allow different chemicals to mix? Example: I normally coat all parts of semi-autos with a thin layer of Kleen-Bore Formula 3, put a drop of Hoppe's oil in the rails and wipe the exterior down with a silicone cloth. The Formula 3 and Hoppe's are likely mixing in the rails.

Also a couple questions about Bore Stores:

Are they less bulky than those zippered pouches? (I've got limited storage space.)

Are they adequate for long-term storage? I've got one old piece that will probably never be fired which I coated with Break Free Collector and wrapped in an oiled cloth. Would a Bore Store be better? BTW, the cloth has Hoppe's and at least one other kind of oil on it.

You might try a blue bag by bianchi, they are permiated with silicone and are intended for long term storage for your firearms. They come in packages of one for long guns and packages of 3 for handguns.

Radio Panic--I'd take Bore Stores over an oily rag. Bore Stores is specifically designed for long-term storage. You could put your guns in a Bore-Stores case and toss a few dessicant packs in there with it. How long are you going to store the gun(s) before you have a chance to wipe them down again? Maybe you should consider a gun safe with a Golden Rod. Where are your guns going to be stored? Are there drastic temperature changes/humidity there?

    Thanks for the feedback.

I am moving to NM from CO soon, so humidity isn't a big concern, and I'm considering an actual gun safe (if I have room). Until then, they are kept in a little Sentry fireproof safe. However, I don't know exactly where I'll be keeping them at the new place so I don't know about temperature fluctuations yet.

Most of the guns won't be going into long-term storage, and there's no problem with cleaning them fairly often. I would just like to optimize the space they take up and keep them in the best condition possible.

Invest in a safe and then go out and spend the $40 on a Golden Rod. You won't be disappointed. It is best to have air that can circulate around the gun. Don't keep the gun zipped up in a soft case or a hard case where there is little air around it. Put it in a safe, apply a thin coat of oil and install a Golden Rod in your safe. All this and your guns should be just fine. My personal preference for a "light coat of oil" is CLP/Break-Free on ALL metallic surfaces. My dad is a cheapskate and won't spend $350 on a simple Sentry gun safe so I bought a Bore Store's case and a silicone-impregnated gun sock for his Ruger Red Label and grandpa's single-shot 16-guage that he ordered from the Sears catalog many many years ago. It isn't worth much to anyone except me but dad currently owns it. I take it out every time I visit my family and it still looks great. It gets a cleaning and a fresh coat of oil about twice a year and there have been no problems. Dad keeps it in a VERY humid environment with drastic seasonal changes in temperature but all is still well.

Beach, Midway USA carries 'em. I imagine Brownells, Mid South, etc. would have them, too. I also see them for sale at gunshows on occasion.

Tonight is the first I have heard of the Bore Stores. They look pretty interesting for saving space. I have been storing my guns in Gun Rugs for 35 years I use Rig Gun Oil and Spray it on the Inside of the Gun Rug as well as a good Coating on the Gun with a Rig-Rag (A sheepskin Pad) saturated with Rig Oil. I have never had a speck of rust on any Gun that I own....OTO

I buy them from Cabela's, they sell them cheaper than Bores Stores sells them on their own website!

Radio Panic, where in NM are you moveing to? There are several of us on the board in the ABQ. area.

Wow. Haven't checked in for a few days!

He Dog - I'll be in the vicinity of Taos. Which reminds me, I still haven't found any decent NM gun show calendars online. The CSSA site works great for Colorado -- is there anything similar for New Mexico?

k.stanonik - Used BoreStores? Lemme think about that.... I would need about seven various handgun sizes and three for rifles.

Radio Panic, beyond Gunshow magazine, I have not found a great listing for NM. The NM Gun Collectors Assn. holds four a year that are the best in ABQ. Our next is June 1-2 at the fairgrounds. There are about 4 other smaller shows here, but there are shows in Roswell, Alamagordo and Las Cruces that I know of and I am sure Taos and other places as well.

Taos is Stylin' I think you will like it here!

This guy will make custom bore-stores cases to fit your needs. Apparently he has bolts of the material from which to make anything you want.
