Blue Tic made a remark about guitars in the "Newbie" thread, and it got me wondering how many of the fine folks here play musical instruments.Please give me a thousand lashes if this topic has been discussed before.I've played guitar (mostly acoustic) for over 30 years. I'm still no good but I have a lot of fun.I own a Taylor 6 string, Ovation 6 string, Guild 12 string, Ibanez 6 string, Alvarez 6 string and a National Resophonic Tricone resonator 6 string. Also a very old Banner Blue banjo ukulele and a very old Arthur Godfrey baritone uke.I also play harmonica, trumpet, and do a very poor job on the keyboard.My latest musical aspiration is to buy a set and learn to play bagpipes.Who else??It's OK to admit it. Nobody will doubt your manhood. Well, some of these A-holes might.

    Everyone in my family can play any instrument they pick up. I can't play a rubber band. Someday, I need to have a serious talk with my mom. Something just ain't right!

    Lowrider--I've been wanting to begin with an accoustic. A friend of mine taught himself how to play his and he always sounded good at "open mic" night at the bar playing with his buddies. I have been looking at Ibanez. Is that a decent representation of a good cross between price and quality for a starter guitar?

    Been trying for about 15yrs to get "good" at guitarin'. Ain't gonna give up the day job anytime soon.Les Paul custom (had to have one, my favorite)Fender Squire strat with a humbucker at the bridgeYamaha fg460s12 (acoustic 12 string)Martin 6 stringand a Marshal valvestate for the hearing impaired.My other expensive hobby was collecting guitars. Now I am limited to stock on hand.Wheres Timberbeast???     Yeah Lowrider - I only have the one (Applause -A/E) I write more than I play, cause my stupid fingers just don't have the brains for it. I still have fun though.

    I learned to play guitar about 5 years ago. Just play a little rithym and sing also. I built guitars for a short time, even sold three. Now I play a Guild 6 string acoustic/elect. Sit in sometimes with a local band.

    All right. This has the makin's of a band.Idsman: I think the Ibanez is a good value in a starter acoustic guitar. I'm teaching a friend to play and that's what he bought. You can buy them from $200 up to around $1000. You might also look at Fender acoustics, Seagulls, Takamine, and several other entry-level axes that I cant think of right now.Make sure it has a straight neck, preferably a solid (not laminated) top, good tuning hardware and low action (height of the strings above the fretboard). If the action is too high it will be hard to play, won't sound very good and you'll lose interest fast. If you have a friend who plays, take them shopping with you.

    Lowrider, If you get the bagpipes....you're not going to start wearing those plaid skirts are you? I seem to remember those fellas in the movie "Braveheart" answered the question in unison no one dared ask....."what do they wear under a kilk?" I took Piano & Guitar lessons for a few years when I was younger....my Mom thought she could make a muscian out of me...I fooled her. Now I play percussion with my .44 mag.

    Here in San Diego there used to be a store called Johnson Gun & Guitar, and it was a truly *-kickin' place w/ guitar guns, WWI/II/Korea/Vietnam memorabelia all over, and just generally way too much cool stuff. They claimed to have built guitar guns for Nugent and head-banger bands. Finally got tired of dealing with all the socialist c**p here in Kalifornia & moved to Arizona (Flagstaff, I think, but don't quote me). Don't blame 'em. Friend sez they are doing extremely well, have opened a second store. If you're ever there, drop by. It's worth it, the place is a trip.

    Lowrider - Lets play sometime, I've been outta practice too long even though I keep the guitar next to my easychair. My Daughter wants to learn - so I said "it's right there - get after it". No - I would let her take real lessons.

Well, some of these A-holes might."I proudly admit being a guitar player, just as I admit being a US citizen or a gun owner to people who have an issue with it. I have played for over 20 years, the last 10 professionally (not full time though). I have way too much gear to list like the others above have done! I do favor my Tom Anderson as well as a PRS CE-24 though.I just registered as a member of this forum, as well as the gunbroker.com website. I thought I would make my entrance within this thread, as I noticed somebody mentioned guitars.Regarding firearms experience, it's been a long time since I've been shooting but I'm beginning to develop an interest again. At the present time, the only firearm that I own is an old Colt Cobra .38 Special that was given to me by my father who is a retired DC Metropolitan Police Detective. I do also own a couple of bb pistols for "plinking" in my garage.Anyway, if anyone has any advise for a relatively new shooter I would greatly appreciate it.
