Anyone ever get charged $50 for a run of the mill shooter to be shipped?

who cares
if its free shipping, bid what you would pay
if its a $500 gun with $50 shipping bid 450
or if its a $500 with $450 shipping bid 50
you get to choose how much you bid, if the number dont work, dont bid
I do email sellers that do not list shipping charges and ask them to give me a number to my zip code. Sometimes they come up with some whoppers. Either crazy steep (greedy) or crazy cheap (usually a good thing).
Had one or two who had not read up, thought they could stick a pistol in a box and send it Parcel Post ... without being an FFL!
Takes all sorts, including those who do not read the How To Sell stuff on GB.
It has cost me 75 bucks to ship a handgun before. That's overnight of course. I hat it, but understand that it costs a lot. I just figure the shipping cost in the price I would pay.
Before I found another option, I got stuck paying $91 to overnight a pistol to Maine! OUCH!
But all the FFL's who list on GB are supposed to do shipping, not just receiving. I looked into that and found one locally that ships from $25 and up. I have since shipped 6 pistols and they handled the shipping and their own fee for $25 total each time. If you need to ship from the Phoenix area, these folks are worth talking to:

I took a whuppin on shipping on the last 5 sales. Guess I'm just too soft on the buyers but maybe they appreciate it.
All ya gotta do is click where it says buyer pays actual shipping. I can't understand how someone gets whupped on shipping unless it's themselves doin' the whuppin'!?!?
BTW, wheres a link to your auctions?

Well it's up to you if you want to pay the shipping for a buyer. Unless you have a big fat profit margin on a sale, such that the cost of shipping doesn't amount to anything but a sliver of the total, it's kind of money out of your pocket before anyone even bids.

I had a guy try to stick it to me on shipping a single shot winchester shotgun. He said he paid $12 for a box to ship it in assembled. Why the heck he didn't break it down, wrap the parts, and ship it in a smaller box I have no idea. He also wanted me to pay for overnight shipping and I refused to do so. Then the gun arrived with no paperwork at all, FFL had no source to write in his bound book.

I think wording on the FFL list over to the auction side is for 'transfers'. You may wish to check with admin on this (what activities qualify to be on the list), but I have a gut feeling that if an FFL wishes to do inbounds only for you, they will be allowed to remain on the FFL list. Best, Joe
I sold a couple C&R rifles 2 weeks ago and charged $35.00 shipping.
One ran $37.00 the other $42.00 so I lost $9.00 over actual cost and I use click & Ship so save compared to using the post office.
I am going back to over charging with a promise to refund the difference. That was fair to all concerned, IMO

Shipping seems to have gone up a bunch.

The UPS guy told me the rates there went up the first of the year. I noticed the same on posted rates at the USPS office.
I have refunded shipping in the past. From $1 to $20. The biggest was when I found a cheaper way to ship pistols, but had already been paid for the more expensive.
And watch for the person that charges $1 for a $99 item then wants $102 in shipping.[:(!]
LOL, I thought they only did this on fleabay to avoid final value fees...didn't know it happened here too.
If shipping is $50, so be it...
Include $50 in your maximum bid...
You'll not pay more than you would otherwise...
If you bid without knowing the full effect of charges...
Than you bid without knowing the facts... Your problem. [;)]
I just bid on an auction for just a rifle action (no barrel, no stock). Seller's auction stated actual shipping cost via ground. I told him I wanted insurance for the selling price ($625). He gives me a quote of $45. When I price it on UPS' website I come up with $16 and some change. What recourse do I have? I think someone is changing the game after it ended. I don't intend to pay that unless a kiss comes with it.
Play it calm and honest. Email or phone the seller and tell him what you see. If you cannot agree make a complaint in to GB. As long as the auction said actual shipping charges and there's no email to the contrary between you, I expect you will come out okay declining the deal.
You may have some nasty feedback for a while until it gets cleared up, but if what you write here is the whole story, it will work out in the end.
Just got an e-mail back from him as I was typing it. It sounds like he's under the mistaken impression that he has to ship through a dealer. My transfer guy doesn't require it. I sent him a link to the GB firearm shipping page, so hopefully we can get a reasonable shipping fee out of this.
