Does anybody make a handgun in this round?I love my savage 93 and would like a pistol in this round.

Anyone have a revolver in .17 HMR? Have a rifle and they are pretty fun to shoot. Seen that Ruger and Taurus both make revolvers chambered in this cartridge and they look like they could be a lot of fun for plinking and squirrel hunting.

Haven't shot the Rugers but have done extensive shooting with a Marlin 17VS! Most amazing thing I've ever taken out of a box, cleaned, put a scope on and then went shooting!! Have shot over 50 groundhogs with it, from 50 yards to 206(longest confirmed measured shot). Most are DRT!! (dead right there) Out to 175 yards are so it kills quick! Not a whole lot of destruction as the little 17 grain V-Maxs just explode without a whole lot of penetration. Try to limit your shots to head and neck and you won't get many crawl-offs. The accuracy is the thing that has impressed me. Mine will consistently stay under 1/2 inch at 100 yards and under 1 inch at 200 yards!! Have shot i other one that I picked up for a friend and it too has great 100 yard accuracy. I put a 4.5-14 Nikon on mine and it seems to be a great combination. I have shot several crows and a bunch of pigieons with it and it is not super explosive to them either. Just kills graveyard dead! Made the mistake of shooting a fox in the shoulder at 130 yards. Should have taken more time but didn't have a lot of time and I didn't find him! I'd have rather missed than injured! We should probably see a little different bullet come out soon for it. Probably a 20-22 grain pill that will be a tad slower but still faster and flatter than a 22 Mag and with better penetration before blowing up! GHD

Louder than a 22 but I think just a bit quieter than a 22Magnum. That's the comment from everyone who's been with me at the shooting bench or hunting. A sharp crack but not as loud. GHD

Hi cbxjeff I have a Ruger 77/22 in 17HMR I picked it up at
a gun show new in box got a deal scope and 2 boxes of ammo
scope is a Bushnell not what I call much of a scope but
I can trade it to someone
I just went yesterday to the range to sight in
I did not have a arbor to bore sight it in so I
started out at 25 yards a little high and right
moved it in and shot a one hole 5 shot group
put target out to 100 yards and shot a little high again
adjested scope and shot a group less than 1/2 had 4 shots all
touching one jest out side may have been me?
I need a lot better scope 3-9 not a good scope for this littel
shooter 4-16 or 6-18 will be going on my pea shooter
as far as report about like a 22lr short barrel(10/22)

Lightning, Welcome to the world of the amazing 17HRM!! I used a 6-18 Redfield for a couple weeks on mine but the parallax screwed up so I put a 4.5-14Nikon on and love it! Try your targets if you have the place to do it, at 50, 100, 150, 200 yards. You should be able to make a click chart for the long shots fairly easily if you want to. I shot 4 groups yesterday non-stop, no cooling, no cleaning at those ranges. To see the results go the "* Bear Killer" post because Reddog just got a 17 and wanted me to tell him how I was sighted in. GHD

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll put one on my Christmas list (and then buy it myself). I hear there is hardly any recoil. Also, someone posted that Taurus is bring out a revolver.

    Thanks again,
