Teddy Roosevelt Quote

edited December 2001 in General Discussion
Old Teddy was pretty sharp: "Every thinking man, when he thinks, realizes that the teachings of the Bible are so interwoven and entwined in our whole civic and social life that it would be literally--I do not mean figuratively, but literally--impossible for us to figure what the loss would be if these teachings were removed. We would lose almost all the standards by which we now judge both public and private morals; all the standards toward which we, with more or less of resolution, strive to raise ourselves." Excerpts from a speech entitled"The Influence of the Bible"given by T. Roosevelt in 1901.

You would need more than TR in office! The whole dang congress/senate would have to be in his way of thinking.

The Indians and the Chinese, among others, have lead both ethical and moral lives. Wonder how, given they don't have the bible?

Ah come on salzo....Teddy brought us onto the world stage in a way that no other President has ever done. A great naturalist, game hunter, cattle baron, war hero, prolific writer and consummate statesman; most Americans would be hard pressed to name a greater President than Teddy. I doubt very much that any President could have stopped, hindered or slowed our steady march in quick step to the socialism that now infects our society. Give the guy his due....when we bad mouth one of the real heros of the Presidency we give the liberals the opportunity to nominate such stalwarts as Jimmy C, Franklin D, Woodrow Wilson, and God forbid Slick Willy(did I mention that in my union Democrat town that many union school teachers view Willy as a great American!!! Will wonders never cease?!!) So I guess if they can forgive Willy his lies and his BJ's in the Oval Office, we should be able to forgive Teddy for some of his income tax ideas etc. Beach

Good book and good lessons.I wish more people who claim to be Christians would abide by it's virtues.Especially when it applies to business dealings,Gun Broker auctions included. But for some the "allmighty dollar" is more important than an honest deal! There is a Baptist preacher near here who is one of the crooked dishonest used car dealers I have ever had the misfortune to fall prey to.Just goes to show that in my opinion, not all that go to church are Christians and some who do not can be more Christian than you might think.

As a guide for morals is quite good but forlogic and sense it does not resist the 3 first pages ... AS stated in legal term God "Lied" and the serpent told the "truth" ... just read as a police report ... Statements:God : If you eat you die! Serpent: If you eat you become like God.. Man ate ....God then stated ... Men have became like us(GODS) Fact : They did not die..Fact:God prevented man from eating from the treeof life (God denied man inmortality .Under his same LAW , He lied , but he is GODso we must say he did not ,but in fact as blind we can be ,he did . But the good question is why? an OmnipotentGod needs a BOOK for ? maybe because he is not the true GOD ,what resides in Human harts is , that is equal in all religions inall beliefs and in all books ,like music, color and the elements ,the same in all places we go.... That is the true word of GOD.

To add a little more ,what is basic to all religions, cults and customs reflect indeed the existance of a supreme all present force. It does not matter how insolated religions are one from another the BASIC LAWS are the same , be it from the AMERICAN INDIANS to South Africa Yaruba ,Islam ,Hare Crishna,Orthodox,Catholic, protestant The laws are basicaly the same ,as COMMON LAW .. But to add something to the flame .... onceGOD wins and his Kindom is the law in the world ... Guns will be banned ....nothing tokill or hunt anymore ... I bet some will not like God to take away his M14 collection orshut down the ranges and GUN Stores in exchange for a HARP ! plink! plink! plunkkk! boingggggg! twink !

Who says God will ban guns? I think God has his own range and shoots a Barrett Light .50 at 1000 yards.I think God is cool with guns. Paul wrote that the centurion does not carry the sword for no reason, and the good people had no reason to fear him. He also said that the centurion (police officer, soldier) is a minister of God. Of course, if Paul wrote that today, he would have substituted another weapon for sword.

Posh ,remember that FBI test were you are given instructions and suddently you are instructed to go to page 100 read and wait 10 minutes and return to next instructions ,well most people just go to the next question and dissregard page 100 .. well inpage 100 it says DISREGARD PREVIOUS INSTRUCTION and stop working ,just watch the crazy things the people do for not following instructions ...... The bible as an ESOTERIC BOOK has a HIDDENset of INSTRUCTIONS once found you disregard the rest. Thoose are in the first 3 pages ...Even with the translation there are the same.I gave you the KEY to IT.
