If you get that golden retriever I doubt you will be dissatisfied. They are smart as anything and most prefer to live outdoors. I really like them jokers cause they are fun to be around, you can actually rough house with 'em without going to jail. PETA sux!

Well, we just happen to have a beautiful yellow lab that is going to have pups around new years! I have never had anything but a lab. I think they are wonderful with kids, smart, and good hunters.

We had a Golden. Smart dog, but stubborn. Lot of fun. Very active, but if you let him inside, he would settle down after an hour or so of upsetting furniture. Too much hair though. Next time, I will consider a Lab.

I was talking to a lady the other day who had two Hungarian Vizslas. Those were the coolest dogs I've seen lately.Medium sized (50-60 lbs.) and real lean, gold in color, short hair, long ears almost like a hound, and run and jump like a gazelle. I looked them up on the AKC website and they are a centuries-old European breed of bird dog.Sure were neat.

You just can't do better than a Yellow Lab, Katie (the dog) is my first lab, she smart, gental with kids as well as protective, great for hunting ... she does get a little hyper when friends come over but settles down fairly quickly ... did I mention she's great with kids? Abby will roll all over her, pull tail ears, lips ... what ever she can get ahold of and when Katie gets tired of it she'll either whimper or walk away ...

The dog will be as good as you are at training it. Just make sure to get a short hair version of whichever type you decide on. They are much lower maintenance. Foxtails, burrs and other nasty pieces of brush love long hair breeds.

I'd weigh in for a Weimeraner. Great upland dog, OK for waterfowl if the weather's not too miserable. FULL of love, very tolerant of children. Short coat, smooth as satin. Did I mention they are beautiful as well? Very smart. Mine spent most of two NH winters outside (with a shelter) until wife relented. Best dog I've ever had, and I've always had at least one . . . house is not a home w/o one.

Those are great pictures! What you are saying about Labs and kids is soooo true! They take what ever the kids give out and then come back for more with their big old tails going! Our last litter of pups was 9, it was great having them chase the kids all over the house and then just plop down and be asleep. Got to be a lot of work after awhile, 10 labs in one house doesn't work! The food they ate........forget it!

I had a yellow lab once that I liked pretty good until I saw blood on his mouth and a couple of my small calves ears had been chewed off. No more lab. Also heard from another source that his lab worked on his livestock. The best dog I ever had was a Blue Healer (she was smarter that a lot of people I know)

Labs & Retrievers are both good hunting & family dogs. One differenct I noticed: The lab will defend your family and property, the retriever will show the that person breaking into your home where you hide the good stuff. Not an agressive but overly friendly dog in my opinion/experience. Anyone, if I have the wrong impression of the retriever, please correct me.

Ok - I got it - A BLUETIC hound!!!! Very nice hunting dogs. They are not just for *, even though they love to tree every squirrel in the yard. Mine loves pheasant hunting and just running the fields. She is great with the kids, but a bit boneheaded when it comes to obediance, but she loves you anyway....

Buy yourself a stuffed toy dog.No food or vet bills, and you don`t have to worry about stepping in anything. Find yourself a friend who has a good hunting dog.Make this person your best friend,at least until his dog dies.

Take a look at a Gordon Setter, we have one, and with NO training, he is scarey good at flushing game and bringing it towards us. Rabbits, Turkeys, anything that moves, and he is a good family dog, friendly to the kids to a fault, yet with a big dog bark and a frightening countenance towards strangers. No negatives with this guy, cept he likes to sleep in my son's bed and push him onto the floor.

I've got the best of both worlds Half Golden Retriever half black Lab. He looks Like a black Golden Retriever. Not as hyper as a lab and not as "sensative" as a golden. Barks like heck at strangers then shows them where the good stuff is. The long hair does tend to collect alot of cockleburrs. Kinda hard to find though. The Vet says he looks Like a Flat Coat Retriever has anyone seen a flat coat.

well, here's one not to due unless you are a gluten for punishment and don't mind having everything that can and will be chewed(chewed) and that is my (loving little 13 inch mo. breed itchy itch, 4 champion BEAGLE.Don't get me wrong I love her to death and somtimes that is not far off, like the 1000 dollar rug with 3 holes in it or the 300 dollar shoes in the raid of the closet or the lawn bubblers chewed of course. And then the on going always getting into the trash, all and the time she ran off for 4 days and got hit by a car and I had to have her hip re-built.YEP I love my lil beagle also have 2 miniture snauzers they are okay for lil dogs but favorite dog was my english springer. sorry to rant on but I love my beagle, we also have 2 parrots,1 turtle and a lot of fish in a 125 gallon tank. GOOD LUCK Rich
