Heard a little about it,,,then got an ad paper from Grice today. Marlin 17v/7 shot clip/bolt/22" heavy barrel/monte carlo stock: BLUED/HARDWOOD= $154.95 STAINLESS/LAMINATE= $229.95 AMMO: HORNADY=$7.50 I read a post (varmit board) where some guy saw a round and described it as looking likea .22mag necked down @ about 30 degrees....with a 17 grain bullet???....at2550fps. Dont know bout that, about the size of a BB? The catalog is taking $25 deposits to hold em for when they come in. If all is true...sounds pretty neat. Sounds like it might shoot on a rope at that velocity and gr. And for that kinda $$$ you would be hard pressed to get a .22mag w/bull barrel. Anyone think this thing might stick around and make it? Since it is rimfire, you could end up w/a nice looking BIG paper weight if it flops..just wondering. And know I have no special reason for wanting one other than the fps. with gr. size picks my accuracy string.

What does it look like? Not that there are many ugly guns but I need an idea of what to look for if'n I'm gonna be a guinea pig on this one.

What wrong with grices?!?! Dude I shop there religiously and they always beat deal deals around here, even better than wally world sometimes, Bob's , all I can ever find in there is worn out junk nobody wants and maybe 10 new guns. Of course if you want military surplus clothing and camp utensils and an old worn out rifle missing parts well Bobs is the place to go.

I already ordered my ammo from Cabela's, so if it flops, I'll have my original run of the ammo, he,he!! Its on back order, suppose to be here the 15th of Feb. But, I gotta admit, thats an attractive price on a gun, it might be worth checking into.

Unless they can get the price of the ammo down that will probably kill it. The good news it that it shouldn't be too hard to replace the barrel with a .22 mag. Would be interesting to have something like a Ruger10/22 with interchangeable .22 mag/.17 cal. barrels.

7mm Do you remember the old Grice store,The place where you could get a good price back then??? When they got the new store and that meuseam going thats when everything went sky high and the service there sucks at best seems they dont have time to anser questions unless your holding a couple hundred bucks or have a high dollar gun sitting on the counter.I dont disrespect your choise of gun stores but better deals can be had than Grice, Even the feed mill in Punxsutawney has better prices than Grice. And as Far as Bobs Army and Navy goes, you are right about the military stuff and old guns, but I said HAVE THEM ORDER IT,ITS CHEAPER THAN GRICE.No hard feelings but it is a fact.Fatcatbob!!

I've never had any probs in there, I buy most of my reloading supplies in there and 80% of my new and used guns. Just recently I was in there looking at new Burris scopes and I had no problems getting the salesmen in there to questions. Maybe because they see me in there quite often but other than that I prefer them over SEVERAL others that I have to choose from. I just purchased a new NEF Handi Rifle from them for $25 less than anybody else was selling them for. Other than grices I also frequent Allegheny Trade in Altoona for military rifles and handguns, now they are a little privey but they have a selection that would make most people drool when it comes to military guns.

LIKETOSHOOT, Its like 9.99 in cabella's, but ya got shipping, I bet it'll be cheaper at a place like cheaper than dirt after while, when the back orders are filled. Might be cheap at walmart after some time too.

Rembrandt, I think that Marlin has made a big mistake not putting sights on this gun, what do you think? I'm of the opinion that this gun just cant be taken seriously enough to put a scope on it right off the bat. I bet keeping the cost down on the production of these had something to do with it. Easier to produce the barrels without the dovetails and taping. The receiver is a no brainer to dovetail, quicker probably too. What do you think?

The buddit is too small to do anything with except plink and punch holes in paper. Which is great except everyone likes cheap ammo for doing this sort of thing. One reason the .22 mag is not ver popular is because ammo is spendy. Same thing with the .410

I have always found that customer service at a busy store can be had if you make yourself a regular fixture in the place. Scheel's has the best selection of firearms in Sioux City, IA. Work takes me by there several times a week. I usually spend about 5-10 minutes a week in the store and have probably spent around $1500 - $2000 there since I first arrived last June. I haven't bought anything real high-dollar in several months but I always pick up little $5 - $10 items regularly. When there's ten people looking at guns, I walk in and the employees make a bee-line to me because I'm a friendly face that makes friendly conversation in the middle of the day when the place is fairly dead. I also create a lot of problems because the computers are down or there is a problem with the receipt machine whenever I want to buy a gun or pick up a gun I have on layaway there. All employees on all shifts know me by my first name now. I thought the service sucked when I first arrived. It took 20 minutes to get 5 boxes of ammo out of their case. Now they make me a priority because I skip Wally World and K-Mart and spend an extra few cents on all of my shooting-related purchases in a place that treats me right. I just can't wait until the Super Scheel's is open in Sioux Falls. Rumor has it that Cabelas is opening up a store in Sioux City in the next few years and Scheel's will have to open a Super Scheel's in order to compete. Woo Hoo!

Hey this .17 thing will be fun out on the prairie after the P-dogs. Why not have a hot little .17 rimfire? Especially for those who dont care to reload. Sign me up as a guy who will have one. After all...once its in the rack....they dont eat...unless you feed em.

I guess it would be good for praire poodles. I wonder how hard it will hit one at 400 yards. Bet it won't make them fly up in the air.The new super Scheels in SF is coming along nicely. I heard it will be open by fall. It is a big biulding and looks alot like the Cabelas in Mitchell.

Robsguns- I'd agree that it would probably be better off scoped....I'll wait till it comes out in some of the upper end guns...Kimber, Cooper, or maybe a Winchester Model 52B chambered for it...now that would be sweet!

Robs, Rem, Fat, Grunt thanks to all of you....and, I kinda agree with all of you. I shoot a .22mag fairly often..not as much as my LR though...BECAUSE of the ammo price.BUT, in general the mag does reach out a tad further with a littl more "ommfh". Saying that, last summer while at the ranch,( always have my BBLMKII on my side an a Rem(old 514(519?) mdl.bolt) with me while I'm there. Well, on the way out I decided to stop at the big lake on the place, about 20 ac., and chunk a few lures off the peir. LOTS of double digit Floridas in that puddle of water. To make a shorter story longer...I noticed the head of a bullfrog about 80-90yds away sticking up out of the water about 3ft. from the bank.As usual I couldn't stand it...walked off the peir, got the case w/ my 514 in it out of the truck, keeping an eye on the froggy the whole time. He had climbed out maybe a foot onto the bank and I found me a place to lie down that was void of "used" hay from some of the cattle. Layed down once in a real hurry to get a good shot on a huge softshell turtle and, well it wasnt a pretty sight and smelled bad too.By the time I found my spot all of the frog I could see was about half his head, was enough...he dropped where he sat. Walked off 70+ steps. Now this Rem, is one I bought 31 years ago for $10 at a pawn shop, had perfect bore/single-shot bolt/walnut stock that must have been drug behind a truck..immed. took the stock off/took it to my gunsmith(god rest his soul)had him take the iron sights off/put the best blueing job he offered on it it/drill and tap for a scope. I refinished the stock to like new. Slapped a 4x12 Bushnell-Banner scope and a nice strap, =one sweet shootin, accurate LR.LOOKS GOOD TOO! Has accounted for Lord knows how many tree rats, rabbits, turtles and such through the years. It will put as many shots as you want at 50yds. and cover em w/a dime with room to spare.Point (finally!) is not a cool little accurate rifle but.. how neat it would be to shoot 2-3 hundred yds. like that?! But as some one mentioned...a LOT of FAST,SMALL GR.AMMO RIMFIRES CAME AND WENT..QUICKLY. So...guess I'll wait and see if this one shows signs of making it. Thought about seeing if a .22mag round would fit into the receiver of the Rem, if so could have the headspace drilled out to accomadate the longer case, sure the action would handle the extra pressure....just not sure if it would be as accurate as it is now. Just recently cut a small portion of the forend stock off at an angle and inlaid a Sterling silver ST. Christopher that belonged to a friend of mine that was, died in1970..and re-finished the end of the stock so would REALLY hate to screw up a good thing. I live in TX. and the catalog came from a store in PA. so I dont think I'll be running down there anytime soon! Thanks for the input guys....and putting up with my blah-blah!

I hear that a 5 mph wind will drift one of these like a kite. Not good on the windswept prarie typical of dogtowns. At around $10 box your getting close to the cost of reloading for the 17 rem. which already borders on the realm of practicality. The way I see it you can dope for elevation with the 22 mag or drift for the 17. One thumb up for something new one thumb down for usefulness. BUSTOn the other subject we have a Cabelas and Scheels. I can't explain it but they are different and I still do most of my business at Scheels probably because it has much better sales and its mark downs make the Cabelas bargain cave look like a bad joke.[This message has been edited by dakotashooter2 (edited 02-05-2002).]

I also think they would be useless in windy conditions.I predict quite a few will try it at first, but in the end will go the way of the rem. 5mm. I guess time will tell.

Yep they are, compare .410 at $7.00 a box to 12ga. at $4.00. I am pricing target shells.Go shoot 500 rounds of .22 and then 500 rounds of .22mag and see which one hurts your pocket book. You can shoot centerfire cheaper than .22 mag if you reload.

Another answer to a nonexistant need. Think "New Coke" and 5mm Realbig Flop Magnum. I don't even plan to buy the ammo this time.

Well were I live it's like this. No centerfire rifles during deer season, No centerfires after dark. Now I like to fox hunt. I like the idea of the .17 rimfire just for this reason. It's a rimfire and little pelt damage. I just bought a Contender now I'll wait for TC or Bullberry to make a barrel. WOODS
