How do you go about getting your permit here in N.Y.? I can't find any info on the web. Can someone give me a quick run down of what I need to do? THANKS, "Gun folk, is good folk" =

    you need to take a pistol safty coarse, as provided by your local sherif, or any certified, approved administrator. Four character refrences, Each prospect must supply signature,address,etc.. Application for permit available, and submitted through your county clerks office in the town or city in which you reside, to be reviewed and approved or denied by your judge. I think your sherif has to approve also, but not sure..You will have to submit multiple sets of finger prints, and also endure an extensive background check. One copy of the application goes to Albany for review and backround checks. All character refrences will be surveyed, and no aprroval will be granted untill all questionaires are completed and returned by each refrence.THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, as it will hold up the process longer than every other step.Don't ask a reference to sign the form, unless they are willing to respond in a timly manner. The process will halt if they are waiting for even one responce, and they wont tell you why. Albany is the next delay, as they don't look at pistol permits as priority. Don't make a lot of phone calls, trying to speed things up, as that just slows things down.There are application fees, costs for safty coarse,and finger printing cost,and possible other fees,I've forgotten for sure. All of this will be explained by your pistol permit clerk at the clerk's office. That is where you must start. Remember , this permit is a Conceiled Carry permit, well worth the aggrivation, and patience. All pistols you purchase or posess in N.Y. must be listed on the permit. And here is another helpful hint...when the application asks what is the purpose for the permit, Don't choose self defence....generaly,that is frowned upon, as they will want to know why you feel your life is threatened. Occupational needs can outwiegh this thinking, but you may find yourself with an occupational use only permit. go for sporting, as that is a broad carry permit. Be patient, and good luck! (better yet move out of N.Y.!!)(or vote against Hilliary)P.S. don't even think of carring or posessing in the big apple...No NO.

    In the PRK (Peoples Republic of Kalifornia), getting a CCW depends on which county you live in. Issuing is pretty much at the disgression of the county sheriff, some do - most don't (except for 'friends', contributors and politicians)

    Wow thats amazing. I thought it was bad in PA. Answer a few written questions, give the clerk 20 bucks, and in two weeks I had a carry permit.

    here you ho,, go to this site and it will answer all of your carry permit questions. it has a state by state breakdown of laws and procedures for permits.It's very accurate too. http://www.packing.org/
