Arab, Alabama was founded by Stephen Thompson. One of his sons was named Arad, and during the process of creating a township, an official in Washington mistook the last letter to be a "b" and so the town was named Arab, pronounced Ay-rab.

Stephen Thompson and his family came out of East Tennessee, and one of his grandfather's was named James. James lived in Lee County, Virginia. The guys from this part of the country opened up many of America's frontiers, and many wore coonskin caps instead of rags. [;)]
    What's next?

My wife was born in Arab. We go there quiet often as her father is buried just south of there.

We were staying at the Jamison Inn (on Hwy. 231) during hunting season one year. In front of the Inn is a fast food place (McDonalds, I believe). That afternoon, I saw several trucks pull up in the parking lot and the men got out and each one had a long gun, maybe shotguns (don't know how many hand guns). Apparently they all met at that location earlier that morning and 'car pooled' to the woods.
Local police did NOT surround the place ! Just a common sight in that part of the country.
    I love North Alabama.

    Thanks---Peabo

Arab isn't all that far from Huntsville. There's a great gunshop and indoor range there. Larry's Pistol and Pawn. I'm sure they're in the phone book. Be sure to go out back to the pawn shop part, too. Milsurp and all the accessories people sell/pawn with their guns are there.
I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly
