'Human Cannonball' Injured at State FairThe Associated Press Published: Feb 10, 2002TAMPA (AP) - The performer called the "human cannonball" was seriously injured when he soared over his target at the Florida State Fair. Ermes Zamperla, 36, flew 100 feet after being launched from a spring-loaded cannon Saturday. Family members said he overshot an inflatable cushion by 25 feet, landed on his feet and then, carried by his momentum, crashed headfirst into a temporary fence made of fiberglass. Zamperla was flown by a helicopter to Tampa General Hospital, where he was treated for head injuries and broken bones. Officials said the injuries were not life-threatening. The Sarasota man has been doing human cannonball shows around the country for more than 20 years as part of the Zamperla Thrill Circus. http://ap.tbo.com/ap/florida/MGA6QU6JJXC.html
