I Got A New Gun Today!

Well, I got my new gun today. After much research, I bought the Springfield Armory 1911A1 "Loaded" Compact Lightweight with a stainless steel finish and, of course, chambered in .45 AP. (I never understood why people bought 9mm 1911's...?)Anyhow, it feels like a part of my hand. I was afraid it would be too small, but it's JUST right. My only complaint is that after reading the owner's manual,I locked the slide back, loaded up a magazine, inserted it into the mag well, and dropped the slide release. The thing jammed on the first round! The slide just smacked the 230 Speer Gold Dot HP into the rear of the barrel and didn't want to go up the ramp and into the barrel. I bet that ball ammo would feed ok, but I don't want to load such as my daily defensive load. Suggestions?

Trade it for that M1 Garand you were supposed to get. Then get a Glock 21.

Polish feed ramp. Throat barrel. Test many many brands of self defense ammo. Use what works. Many world-renowned 1911 accurizers will not guarantee the barrel of a Springfield. It's been said that it is inferior to others. Get an aftermarket that has been throated and have the feed ramp polished.

Evil ATF--First of all, don't judge any gun until you have shot it enough to break it in. In your Springfield's case, I suggest you go to the range and fire 250 rounds (factory FML will do) through it. Also take your cleaning kit and several different rounds of factory hollowpoints, if that's what you intend to use. Test all the different ammo types--cleaning the pistol between testing each style of bullet. There may be some shapes of bullets your pistol likes and some it doesn't, but in all likelyhood, you will find a few that will work. Don't do any modifications on the gun yourself, or get anyone else to either. That's worth repeating: DON'T DO ANY MODIFICATIONS ON THE GUN YOURSELF, OR GET ANYONE ELSE TO EITHER. If, after you give the pistol a thorough testing, it still malfunctions, call Springfield about it. They are a reputable company and will make you happy with their product. I had a Springfield that had a little problem one time. They asked me to send them the gun and magazine, which I did. I got it back about 2 weeks later working perfectly.

Yup!Take it to your smith, have him polish it & throat it and do all the things that should have been done before it left Brazil ...

I could try to say something wiser than bsebast said, but he said it all. So, I will simply say that it is Friday and I am going hunting tomorrow and all in all, life is pretty good. Hope things work out for you.

Evil, I have a Springfield Longslide in 45ACP/45 Super and I had horrible jamming problems untill I put around 200 - 250 rounds through it. Now it never fails. I would put a few hundred rounds through it before I put any money in a smiths hands to do what firing will most likely do.

Thanks for all the sound advice so far. I'm very happy with my purchase. I ALMOST bought the Kimber Compact CDP, but wiser heads than mine helped steer me in the right direction. Why spend almost $300 more for a gun with the same options and only a one year warranty versus SA's lifetime warranty? Anyhow, I've got a 1,000 case of Wolf .45 ACP ball and 500 rounds of Federal Hydrashok HP's on the way. I figure I'll warm her up with the ball ammo, then start in on the Hydrashok HP's. I'll give y'all a sit-rep when I've test fired her.

Not trying to be a smart*ss but my series 70 easts anything I feed it and is accurate as heck out to long ranges. Only mod is adjustable sights and match bushing. Contact Springfield I think they will fix this problem free. They should the gun is advertised to shoot .45ACP the addvertisement don't say only certain brands.
