7.62 x 54 question

i have seen it listed as 7.62 x 54 or 7.62 x 54r .is this two different rounds or are they the same ? wrench .

    Should be the same, you may even see it as 7.62x 53 or 55, I cant remember now, but I've seen it either one up or one down from 54. All the r means is rimmed.

    In this case they are the same thing; the folks who leave off the R are simply being lazy. In metric nomenclature, the "R" designates a rimmed cartridge. Thus you will see things like 7x57 and 7x57R which are in fact different rounds. Often the European manufacturers made rimmed versions of popular rimless rounds for use in single shots and multi-barreled rifles. Much less commonly, it went the other way, with rimless versions being made of popular rimmed loadings.
