The pushrod version was better IMO, but the 3.0 is one of Ford's better V6's. With proper maintenance they will provide 250K+ miles of reliable use

    hi guys...
imo...ford v6 low comp, serviced & looked after, oil changes etc 6/8k, exellent motor, bit dated but reliable, the high comp motor super performer, exellent in landrovers..mmm.in general you can do all the maintenance yourself.

honda v tech ,more modern motor, bullet proof, exellent performance from small motor, superb 3.0L in acura(nsx)
    all services & work specialist..

    the choice is your......have fun..[;)]

I beleive Honda uses it also. Ford introduced this motor in 2001 and it had a few minor issues, I think they have worked the bugs out of this motor.

    Thanks for the feedback!

The 2 3.0 fords I am familiar with are the Vulcan, and the Dura-tech.

the vulcan is a pushrod engine that came out in 86 or so in the taurus. Solid easy to work on engine. 140-155 hp depenging on the year. excellent, dependable motor, had several past 200K.

The duratech came out in 98-99 and is a mechanics nightmare(coilpacks, DOHC, plastic manifold, huge engine bay filling monster). This one runs like a raped ape once you get to 3000 rpms. 200-220 HP. Jury still out on this one, only had it for a month and 5,000 miles.

I didn't know ford cooperated with honda on anything, they work with Mazda on nearly everything.

What platform are you looking at it in?

Just did a little research, the Honda v-tech and ford Duratech definately are not the same engine. the ford has slightly less displacement 2992CC, and is not a Square bore x stroke. the Honda is 2997cc, 86mmx86mm borexstroke.

I would say that both engineers took apart an early 90's nissan Maxima engine for ideas.

My bad guys, I was thinking about the 4.0 SOHC motor, not the 3.0 Duratech!

    Ooops!

Yep, I have 2 Rangers with this motor. First is a 2000 also with 67K 5 speed manual, other is a 2004 with 8k AT. Bought the 2000 last year and have put 20k on it with no problems. Good trucks!
