before you buy an ak-47 scope mount

I have several ak's including a maadi. It does not come with a scope mount on the side like the Romanians. So I bought this scope mount made by leapers. Rating of 1-10, I'd give it a 4. It replaces the dust cover and costs $19-$30. I had to force it on, so it fit nice and tight at first, After about 200 rounds it kind of broke in. I then had to start using the two screws that come with it to add tention to it. Now after shooting 100 rounds, I have to keep tightening the screws. It's o.k., not very reliable as far as not having to zero in every session. I would recommend that a person purchase a side rail and intall it, I'll tell you why in a second. My wife has two romanians one is a 223, the other 7.62x39. These guns came with the side rail mount. So first I went the cheap way and bought a mount that slides on and then is bolted with 3 allen type screws. First putting it on, I was disappointed, very loose. After tightening the bolts just more than hand tight, I noticed that the bottom part of the mount was pulling up or squeezing in. It was on tight, stayed tight after 200 rounds. Only scope good for it is a 32 mm unless you get the weaver style and you can put on higher rings otherwise it almost rests on the rear sight. So then it came time to clean the gun, this is where I learned that I did not like this mount. I had to loosen the bolts and tap (kind of hard) the mount off with a peice of wood and a hammer. I also has to pry the bottom part of the mount with a screwdriver. It was pulled up from the bolts as I mentioned before. It cost $49. I would recommend it but don't ever remove it, it will gat scratched and all screwed up. It will bend slightly when you tighten the bolts. The best one I have seen yet is called a KV-04. It slides on nice and then you turn this lever that locks in place. Then it is on really tight. It also has a way of adusting the tention. Comes off really easy, slides right off after pulling the lever out. Man, I should have bought this before the bolt on. It is pricy though, $89 but you know what... it is really worth it. If you cherish shooting and like ak-47's, you have to get this mount. I rate it a 10 +..... John

I was shocked that I was shooting 4" circles with mine. out of twenty rounds, I can bullseye about 2-4 times. Leapers 3x9 32 mm scope (which broke after 2 sesions)and 7.62x39. My wife has a 223, she is kind of new shooting 5-6" circles, both at 100 yards. She has a new bushnell 3-9 x40 (spoiled brat).

Stay away from the B-Square mount. I have one on my Maadi, and it has to be removed every time you plan on taking off the dust cover. As far as accuracy goes, I have yet to even be on the target with it and the tasco red dot I have on it (and this is after 20 rounds at 50 yards). Where can I buy a good side rail mount?

copy and paste the following this one I am still waiting to rate, should get it today (mon) or Tuesday. www.hessearms.com/Model47%20accessories.htm This one I have and is a piece of garbage http://128.121.4.119/ak47/sights/scopemounts.html Moves after 10-20 rounds, unstable, cute though, would not recommend to anyone but Osama. This one I have and is by far the best. $89 but WELL WORTH IT. SLides on and off with no problems, clamps on and locks, you are ready to shoot www.k-varcorp.com/ look for the kv-04. soon as I get the first one I mentioned, I will post a topic "rating ak-47 scope mounts" I wishj someone else had done this before I wasted a total of about $79 but I feel I am doing others a favor.
