Heard this morning that Illinois' politician Blagoyovitch has voiced the opinion that "...civilians don't NEED 50 caliber sniper rifles..." and will introduce a move tomorrow to outlaw 'em.

Someone, probably Josey1, could post an article relating to this. As of a few months ago, the Senate (you know which ones) had actually proposed a bill to outlaw any firearm chambered in .50 caliber. You need to contact your state reps immediately and let them know how you feel about it. Otherwise, buy one NOW so that you will hopefully be grandfathered in. If the bill passes, expect all the .50's to at least triple in price. I have no use for a fifty, especially considering the ammo cost since I don't yet reload, but I'll be buying one ASAP as an investment if nothing else.

That beade-eyed little runt was running along behind Klinton like a kid that had just tattled on his brother when he proposed that little bit of wisdom. You would have had to have seen it to see what I mean. But I thought we were done with that: Has it been reintroduced? It's quite a game they play. Have you folks seen SB 1253 sub 1062 that our senate has passed? Better look.

I just heard a headliner on the news but never saw the story. They are being toted as anti-tank and anti-helicopter guns and are not necessary for civilians. What a crock of bull.

    * * * * * * I S R A Information Notice No. 01023 * * * * * * ISRA: Blagojevich's Claims Irresponsible Fear Mongering U.S. Newswire 22 Oct 9:22 ISRA: Blagojevich's Sniper Rifle Claims Irresponsible Fear Mongering To: State Desk Contact: Richard A. Pearson, of the Illinois State Rifle Association, 815-635-3198 Web Site: http://www.isra.org SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Oct. 22 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA): In the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks against New York City and Washington, D.C., the last thing Americans want or need is to have their concerns for family safety exploited for political purposes. But, that's exactly what U.S. Representative and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rod Blagojevich has done. While on the campaign trail this past weekend, Blagojevich warned fans of the Chicago Cubs that they could soon become targets for terrorist snipers firing at them from the roof of the Sears Tower. Blagojevich's warning to baseball fans came as he joined extremist elements of the gun control movement in calling for a ban on so-called ".50 caliber sniper rifles." As justification for the proposed ban, gun control advocates rely on urban legends touting the potency of .50 caliber rifles including claims that these rifles can shoot down jets streaking across the sky and pick off assassination victims from up to 4 miles away. Although such claims have yet to be proven on the battlefield, gun control advocates insist that they will soon become a certainty in every day civilian life. The truth of the matter is that Cub fans have a lot more to fear from the paroled habitual felon than they do from the prospect of a terrorist lugging a 30 pound, 5-foot long rifle up 110 flights of stairs to the roof of the Sears Tower. Unlike .50 caliber sniper fantasies, a baseball fan's fear of armed repeat offenders is supported by the Chicago Police Department's report that 80 percent of murderers have previous criminal records. "Candidate Blagojevich is combining the potent imagery of turbaned terrorists, high rise office buildings and bloody attacks on Americana to bolster his campaign for Illinois Governor," commented ISRA President Richard Pearson. "It's a blatant attempt to play on the fears of the average Joe who just wants to enjoy family life in peace." "But, we can expect Blagojevich to take every opportunity to attack lawful firearm ownership," continued Pearson. "As a State Representative, Blagojevich supported a number of punitive gun control measures including an astronomical raise in firearm owner ID fees. As a Congressman, Blagojevich has proven himself friendly to any legislation designed to diminish the rights of law-abiding firearm owners." "As a candidate for governor, Blagojevich had better become a little more adept in math," said Pearson. "It's pretty tough to win a state-wide election when you kick off your campaign by alienating a million and a half gun owners. Maybe Blagojevich believes he can scare people into voting for him with all this talk of sniper rifles -- but I'm not sure that will work very well either." --- The ISRA is the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful, and responsible firearms ownership. For nearly a century, the ISRA has represented the interests of over 1.5 million law-abiding Illinois firearm owners. This guy Rod is a real piece of *.
