I have found just the followers by themselves, can I take junk mags, like usa mags for little $$$ and install the green followers? Will the springs in the cheap mags along with the good followers make a decent magazine?

To expand on the above post, a buddy attempted the same idea you are considering. After several attempts with different followers and then different springs, he finally gave up. He now has a dozen or so USGI mags and is very happy.

They are right-just buy good mags and forget about the green followers.

thanks for saving me $$$$ guys. I have some USGI and plan on buying several more. I just thought, hey, if I can take a $12 usa mag, install a $3 follower, and have a $30 clip, why not. But, it appears some of your acquaintances have saved me the trouble. Thanks guys.Buy the way, would it serve me to buy the replacement followers and have them around. Can a USGI clip have a follower go bad, in which case I could fix it myself?

Well, after using the M-16 in the Army and carring it through all types of field environments, I have found that even USGI mags without the green followers are not always user-friendly. When I had an AR-15 I replaced all followers in my USGI magazines with green ones. I have yet to purchase a USGI magazine that already has them.

idsman75, thanks. I will buy several of the followers and keep them around for USGI non-green follower failures. I found the green follower USGI clips for $25 a peice new. This a good price?

No USA's. USGI'S or 'COLT'S'Colt didn't make mags, but the ones they had made are GOOD. Robs will set you straight

SXSMAN, I didn't remember the add correctly until I got home. "new, pre ban mil spec, black teflon aluminum, 30rnd, magazine with the green follower $25" R GUNS 847-428-3569. Am I missing something guys? I must be, this seems like a great price. I am not the most knowledgable as to ar magazines. Can anyone tell me if they are the right stuff? NRA magazine American Rifleman pg 27.
