It is an old pressure canner, exactly like the one in this link, in very good condition.

I don't think I would. The new one I have scares me. I have heard too many stories about people blowing them up....I'm always nervous when I use them.

If everything functions on it id use it. the gauge is cracked but replaceable. As long as you don't get a batch cooking and walk away youd be fine.

That was what always had my mom worried.

But she was a tough bird and not easily frightened.

As long as the pop off valve works good I don't see a problem. THe most pressure you will have is 15 lbs.

I had a close call a few years ago. I forget what i was canning but for some reason the pressure release valve didn't open. I started putzing on the computer and forgot about it. Had that OH POOP moment ran out to check on it and the gauge was maxed right out and the cooker was rocking.

How it didnt blow i do not know. But im glad it didnt. Would have made a hell of a mess.

It has a metal to metal seal in like new condition, the pop-off valve is the more reliable spring loaded type, set for 10 or 15 lbs, overall it seems to be in very good condition, just a bit dusty from my storing it.

I think I'll do a test with it outside and see if it works as it should. I can stay a long ways away and control the propane tank for safety. I can always use a second canner; it will come in handy when processing deer this fall.

why couldn't you unscrew the popoff valve, and screw in a vent and use a weight? Those are fool proof as long as it isn't clogged. AND as soon as you see the steady steam coming out the vent before placing the weight, you KNOW it isn't clogged.
