    SKS isnt too complicated.

And the rifle's a Russian design, so it's rugged as all hell and doesnt need to be cleaned very well.

If this is your first 7.62 caliber rifle (and even if it isnt), go out and buy a .30-caliber rifle bore snake. Trust me, it makes it 300 times easier to clean a bore, and any rifle worth it's salt is going to be .30 cal anyway. Just spray some oil in there, and it brushes and wipes all at the same time.

The only slightly tricky parts of the SKS are getting the trigger mech back in after you've gotten it out, and making the gas system cover lever work.

Make sure you've got the safety ON whenever you're messing with the trigger mechanism, and put it on a flat surface and push on the little tab near the back with both thumbs when you put it back in.

With the gas lever, just fiddle with it until you can get the gas rod out. To get it back in, fiddle with it until it holds the spring in, then push it in the rest of the way. Be careful not to break it!

Have a good time with your new SKS. Fine rifle, that one.

The sks is an inexpensive weapon to purchase and the ammo is abundant and resonably priced. Stay away from the corosive ammo.
However Bullzeye made a couple statements. One was wrong. you should clean and maintain your weapon very well, no different than you would an AR15 or a quality rifle.

    black

Find cover because theres a black cloud over head.

Some may noy like you, get over it or get use to it.

safety ON, flip gun over, find small indented tab just behind trigger guard. insert a phillips head screw driver and smack it. Might take a couple of tries. Once it has been smacked correctly, it will pop slighly out towards you. Pull up and pivot the trigger group out, pull out the box magazine. Re-insert trigger group. Be sure you research the 30 rnd magazine issue to be sure you can do it, the bayonette (if there is one) might interfere with legality. This is one of the biggest grey area guns, so be sure what you are doing is OK.

    When in doubt...empty the magazine!!
