Hi there. A question for fellow MD hunters. Can you hunt with rifle in Maryland? Or is it just shotgun. Another one I just got a custom mauser in 6.5x55 can I use it for deer. Does it have enough knock down power?
Thanks Mark

Only certain counties allow rifle use. When you buy your hunting license make sure you get the booklet with it. It will tell you all balistics lawful to use. I know that Frederick county is split in half for some reason. I'am not sure but I think it rifle one half and no rifle the other. If you are on private property and are under the "no license needed" clauses any good gun shop or sporting goods store should let you browse a booklet. I know there were some changes to how many deer with bow this year. Other then that you can find it on-line, I'll try to find the link and post back.

As to the 6.5x55 some of the experts here will surely help on that.

    www.dnr.state.md.us/huntersguide/index.html

The counties are listed in there.
The rifle must have more than 1,200 pounds muzzle velocity.

The western counties in the VA/W. VA area allow rifles. The western shore counties surrounding the bay, don't allow rifles. Caroline, and Talbot on the eastern side don't allow rifles either. But, Dorchester, Wicomico, Worchester, and Somerset do allow rifles. Those are the counties I hunt in. Dorchester also allows the use of buckshot for your shotgun as well.

Yes, the 6.5x55 will do well on whitetail.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.
